Old Photos
My Uncle found a photo album I hadn't seen for a few decades (my late Aunt Jo really liked to squirrel things away. I'm scanning them and will be posting some here...so you're forewarned!
Anyone else who might have some photos from long ago...or not so long ago...is invited to post them here:
Little Charlie watches...Bobby cranks the mighty QZ PT-19...and I stand locked and ready to sprint for the handle! Note the bog-like baseball infield the little trainer will have to use as it's runway...

What truly excellent photo Kim, living the dream! Looks to be a tad chilly in the pic, possibly the reason it took a while to start?
I have to ask, do you even remember that day?

I do remember the "The Days", but not specifically this one. This photo is my favorite of the album, and I stared at it for a while before scanning it. Sunday afternoons were an intense time for us (or me), as it was usually the only day Wayne could bring his planes, and I was all business for the chance to show-off.
Little Charlie never did get the model airplane bug, but I owe him big-time for all the after-school sessions when I was able to con him into helping me launch my little creations.
I have to smile these days when folks talk about the "crankiness" of the little Cox engines.
Ours had all types of fuel fed to them, and were forced to digest everything from grass, to infield dirt, and we STILL managed to get them flying, albeit sometimes sluggishly !
We were limited solely by the wind ( a somewhat cruel teacher), and flew in every kind of weather that didn't blow the plane in on us or threaten us with lightning strikes.
I was one lucky kid.

Me, Bobby, Shark .15 and Top Flite Hurricane
I built the Top Flite Hurricane and thought it was the coolest plane I ever built. In fact it was my first full bodied stunter. I made more mistakes on that plane and as usual, my dad would always say "Before you glue anything......read the instructions". I thought the preformed fuse shells were quite neat. I remember holding the shells together for about an hour. I didn't even think about rubber bands or Ace bandages or even tape for that matter. Back then , you couldn't wait for the glue to dry to get the next bird out to show your friends.
I had the plane for some 30 years and finally sold it. The plane flew quite well with the Fox.35 up front until the inevitable happened. The Fox shook the plane apart and split the fuse and the nose almost broke off. There was very little up front to support the engine. The engine crutch was poorly designed. Due to my not reading the prints thoroughly as dad told me to, I missed the part where it said to glass the fuse from the nose to the trailing edge. The stab was too small as well. I do have another kit and someday will make another. Seeing your picture Kim certainly brings back great memories. Ken

I don't have any pre 2011 pictures of me and my airplanes, but here is my son when he was 8, almost 20 years ago, helping me do an elevator check before the maiden flight of my Little Devil.

Well...the spookyness continues as I ALSO have a Hurricane kit stuck back as a "some day project"! Wayne's Hurricane was what I considered to be the coolest of his little air-force at the time, and I remember it being the fastest of the bunch. Not sure what he had in the nose, and looking at the drawings for the kit, the nose/mount looks to appreciate a little extra attention.
I had hold of the handle when the Hurricane met it's end. We didn't know about epoxy in those days...our planes were built entirely of Ambroid or Duco Cement. I had just looped or wing-overed the Hurricane and was low and fast when the bellcrank plate pulled loose, instantly dumping the the plane into the infield dirt. Wayne was not a fan of the formed-shell fuselage, and never built another, although Kevin Eugene built one a couple years later.
I know and remember the impatience with leaving a project alone 'till the glue dried...it was torture! Before Wayne got me started, I'd only built plastic display models, and thought THEY took too long for their glue to cure! So the wooden models were definitely a lesson in discipline for me.
My first "Big" plane build was a Goldberg "Cosmic Wind", though I also owned a Sterling "Flying Fool" that Wayne built for me.
The "Fool" was taken out by a stumbling little brother, who managed to fall full-body across it ! There were five of us kids, living in a tiny house, so my planes had a lot more to worry about than just crashing on their own!

Hey! It was WAYNE'S plane !!! I know no one here is going to believe me, but it was years later before I came to associate the Bunny with the Magazine. I WAS somewhat of a Super-Geek !

Not rocky, that was our horse pasture (aka horse divots) I never flew RC before, was trying to teach myself and didn't feel comfortable at a hand launch. I still rarely hand launch, unless I need to.

WingingIt74: I was trying to be nice about the "rocks". and someone wise once said "the only way to learn is to try, try and try again". Been then and done that many times over as far as flying CL and RC are concerned. why i remember when...
happydad.
p.s. my camera days were on hold from about 1978 right after i finished college until 2004 when my new son-in-law helped me buy a digital Canon EOS camera to replace my long broken Canon FT from my USAF days. i'll have to look thru the old slides to see if i ever took any pics of my planes.

A cold, Sunny Day in Early 1976. The Super Chip was not quite finished, and was about to begin it's long hibernation in Wayne's shop.

Re: Old Photos
Oh, that was too cool, Mud. I watched the 3rd video, flying two at once. I've never even tried flying without looking at the plane like you were doing. But you'd have to if the planes are on opposite sides of the circle. Unless you can use up extra energy on the faster one to try and keep them flying together. You've done combat too, right? I wouldn't want to go up against you in a contest.
I'm off to watch the others.

Nice landings. That's the good thing about flying over pavement or a clay infield, and touch-and-gos too.
That SuperCub is a fast little sucker.
