East Build Models Commando
hi, i bought the "commando" today.
info on this plane is: 50'' wingspan, free flight gas powered, ideal for the beginner in gasoline powered models, class A model, for .049-.09 power
ok now to my questions,
What do you guys think of this plane?
how do i decide on the moveable portion of elevator and rudder as im going to convert this plane to rc
man this hobby can be costly i spent $45 on the kit, paid $107 for a nib cox rc katydid w/ nip blister pack baby bee, $30 on a p-39 airacobra from Joe (thanks man ) and $100 on a new rc car engine from my uncle

Re: East Build Models Commando
Mitch,
Easy Built's website has these construction notes http://www.easybuiltmodels.com/ffp03constructionnotes.htm from someone who converted that model to r/c, using an OS Max .10 or .15. You can probably get a good idea of the rudder/elevator mods from looking at that.
One thing to watch for is a tail heavy condition. These Old Timer free flight planes commonly used a heavy wet cell lead acid battery for the spark ignition, which is why they all have that long tail/short nose appearance.
Stick a modern, lightweight glow engine in the nose, a couple servos aft, and it can be hard to get the CG where it needs to be without extra weight in the nose. (And because the nose is so short it takes quite a bit of weigh to shift the CG.)
It isn't uncommon for people to stretch the nose on an Old Timer conversion to help get the CG in range. One of the show 'n' tell photos on the Commando kit web page mentions adding 1 1/2" to the nose.

Re: East Build Models Commando
cool thanks for the information Ahrma, luckly i have a O.S 15 la that i could stick in the nose wich should give me the power to get through stuff like lazy loops and have etra power to save myself in some situations and as a extra plus that the os 15 has that the other 2 engines dont have... Rc throttle and a real muffler
