Need info on my Groupner Wankel
Hello all,
I got a used but in good running condition, Groupner / O.S. .30 Wankel dirt cheap!!!And I will be getting another one in the same shape for the same price. Anyway, Does anyone have any info on when these were made and any links to download a manual and any sources for a muffler and parts? I looked on E-Bay but had no luck and Google turned up zilch. Also, does anyone know what they are worth?
Thanks,
Shawn

Re: Need info on my Groupner Wankel
I called O.S. / Great Planes a while back and they said there are no interchangeable parts between the Groupner / O.S. Type I and the newer O.S. Type II Wankel and even though it looks like it might, the muffler will not work either. So It looks like I'm going to have to keep looking on E-Bay or fabricate something. It runs fine like it is but it's too loud and it wouldn't hurt to have a pressurized fuel system.GermanBeez wrote:yes, this is the version OS makes.

This one is going into a .40 Yak and the other one is going to my Uncle who is also into the hobby. But if I ever decide to trade it, I'll let you know.mitchg95 wrote:sdjjadk wrote:I called O.S. / Great Planes a while back and they said there are no interchangeable parts between the Groupner / O.S. Re: Need info on my Groupner Wankel
At $30 you stole that engine! A muffler is almost unobtanium. I bought a muffler for mine on eBay a few months back and I paid $50 just for the muffler. There are interchangeable parts from the first version to the current version. The bearings, the apex seals and springs are all the same. The screw set is the same and the drive washer key is the same. They are fuel pigs but make the same power as a 40.
Use a fuel that has at least 50% of the oil is castor and total oil content is 20%.
If you can't find a muffler a 4 stroke engine muffler could be adapted to fit. Something off of a OS FS 70 might work. Or an adapter to a ST quiet muffler or torpedo muffler may work.

I'm fairly sure OS made all of these, some also had the NSU label as well.

Thanks for heads up on the parts and muffler suggestions. I'll look into the 4-Cycle mufflers and see if one will fit.

I think NSU was the main licensee of the patent, for the Ro80 car, then sub'ed it out to a bunch of other dreamers, so it may have been a licensing thing.
Suzuki had a motorcycle (only listed for two years, which at the time was cause for hari-kari on the part of the main designer) which had more parts in the carb and ignition system than most mc's had parts. I think Rotax built both snowmobile and lawmower engines, too.
Mazda was probably the only people who made money off it.

All good.
The RE5 was imported into the UK for about 5 years I think. I had a Saturday job at Coburn and Hughes
who were the UK's largest Motor Cycle chain in 77/79 they may have been late registered but I'm
fairly sure we were still selling them in 79.
NSU went under standing by warranty claims on an otherwise superb (for it's time) car the RO80.
Which eventually had dealers even putting Ford engines in them.
My Grandad had the very first RX3 in the UK which prompted me to by an RX7 18 years later.
If you've never driven one and the opportunity presents itself take it.
I think it's the smoothest engine ever built forget Jag or BM V12's this thing is almost turbine like.
Shame they never sorted out the horrendous fuel consumption.

I owned an '83 RX7 for a while. Great little car until my wife (then Girlfriend) drove it off an embankment. None of the panels sat right after that.
