Monocote heat gun and Cox ARF plastic
I was seeking some parts for a Cox PT-19. Generous doner sent a wing. Thanks Rusty.. Wing was distored by leaving in a hot car. Two major warps from heat as it arrived. I was careful with heat gun but guns heats very quickly and could not get warps out. Plastic started to distort quickly and stoped. I was able to improve warps but there still there. The front of wing looks pretty good and guess it will fly. Either that or try to find a good wing. Moral to story heat guns to aggressive for this useage. Save somebody some mishaps.

Perhaps an oven would work best, even temps........ You would have to work quick though.
Thanks for the warning.

Re: Monocote heat gun and Cox ARF plastic
submersed in boiling water works too. Did that for some smaller plastic airplanes years ago.
Re: Monocote heat gun and Cox ARF plastic
I tried too, with little success. I did straighten the stabilator perfectly, but it had only sagged on each side. The good news is, that wing has hundreds of laps on it with the warp. It takes a 1/4 lap roll to get airborne with the mild mannered Surestart.
I'm dying to try mine with the Killer Bee and new wing. They mowed the weeds last weekend so maybe I can try my rope, skewer and brick stooge this weekend. The weeds tangled the control lines while taking off and I thought I was going to have to run from it. I promised y'all and RCG a loop, so I need to start exploring that possibility. I have a 6x2 prop for just that purpose.

Re: Monocote heat gun and Cox ARF plastic
yep, steam or boiling water gives you a little better control, things happen real quick with a heat gun...
Re: Monocote heat gun and Cox ARF plastic
I tried boiling water and waste of time. Oven is out but mostly best bet. Upshot is recenty recieved a nice complete undamaged PT-19.
Maybe make a day of it. Have ME-109 stunter/ S/ Chipmonk, and a Viper. Chip/ and Viper are unflown. I may have a Crusader someware packed up. Just for the fun of it.
