Re: How I repaired sized engines
Does anyone know of stuff or a device called "Sonic Dissolve". When young I was working attached to a 'spook lab' and the CDI on my racing bike packed it in. As usual the five dollars of parts were potted in this black stuff so as that you couldnt get to them or read them. I told one of the 'spooks' and he said bring it in and we will put it in sonic dissolve. It came back, no black potting stuff and every component every track could be read, the silk screening on components was legible even. Never found out how they did it. maybe there is a reason I didnt get told. Dont know. But a 20c capacitor saved a 1981 Aust $250 CDI unit from the bin and purchase of a new one.

device like that could be good for things like brake calipers and brake slave piston this seize really solid and usually unseizing them does the seals in. this might leave the seals still intact! :-)

Re: How I repaired sized engines
I got a chuckle from the Spray Nine website with their jab at Purple Power.
I use Purple Power quite a lot, but I'm always open to another degreaser/cleaner although the website toutes it as more of a household cleaner than engine degreaser -- looks to be a Permatex product.
I'm sure it causes cancer in California.

Re: How I repaired sized engines
I know we all joke about the chemichals, but I know Toluene, Carbon Techtracloride (Used to wash grease off with it) have done me very real damage. Note: 40 years ago in OZ we didnt know this stuff could hurt you. I used to syphon Toluene out of 20L drums with a tube and my mouth Plus many years in close packed dirt speedway tracks breathing burnt methanol fumes. My Onco says that why we are friends now.
Dont be over the top, but take some care with some stuff. Especially younger people who have time to build up lethal exposures. Its hard because everything is claimed to gove you cancer and we know if that was true we would all be dead. But, some stuff like the above, really can do you a dis-service. Lol.

Update
I wanted to de-seize 2 other engines without success and after several hours in the ultra sound bath.
No method / gadget seems to make a miracle

My go-to is a small slow cooker with pure antifreeze. Never failed me yet. I would love an ultrasonic cleaner, but just cannot justify the costs. Then there is the whole debate on size and whether to get one with a heater or not......

Good to know, thank's
So a pan on the stove at low temperature should work?

Only heat antifreeze in an open well ventilated area. The fumes are pretty noxious. A pan on a stove will certainly work, but don't do it in the kitchen. Also, if you heat it too much the vapours can become combustible.

I've done it many times and it works well, but I only ever do it in an open shed away from the house. The reason I mentioned the combustibility was that I once had a pot of antifreeze for cleaning parts in an old toaster oven in the shed. I had the oven door closed when suddenly I saw (and heard) a big whoosh and saw flames billow from the oven. No damage done but it highlights the need for it to be well ventilated and don't have the heat up too high.

Re: How I repaired sized engines
Yes, not on a stove. I do 'cook' my engines in my attached garage throughout the year here in Manitoba, but as stated, using a slow-cooker with the lid. Nothing to worry about, even overnight or while at work. But I see I also forgot to mention, do NOT put any plastics or parts with plastic as it more than likely will damage them as in discolor, or degrade the material. I also do not put anything with rubber in either, unless I plan on replacing the o-rings, and this is an absolute last resort.
But most importantly. If you use a slow cooker, NEVER EVER use it again for food! That is why I just bought the small cheap one from the big box store......

With heat gun !
Another sized engine to fix ; By hand, even with a good grip, it is impossible to move the piston.
A trick I learn on cox Facebook :
Heat engine with powerful hear gun, not a hair dryer.
After 30 second and when hot, engine turn freely .

I understand very well what you mean and I confess that since I discovered the use of the heat gun to unseize the engines, I have abandoned the ultra -sound bath.
However, as i bought it, I also discovered that this bath does not have its equivalent for cleaning small parts such as the yellow spinner, propellers etc..
I don't get such good results by hand. The plastic being porous, the ultra sound bath was able to dislodge the dirt. Does it have to be so clean?
$6.97 at Walmart. I'll buy it next time I'll go to USA with my car , end of March
The stuff I use $18,69
