Cox Engine of The Month
TD 15 I got off of ebay :(
TD 15 I got off of ebay :(
On the outside the TD 15 I got off of ebay looked great. One I got it apart I found some issues that I think warrant returning this engine to the seller for a refund.
It looks like someone reset the ball socket with a punch and a hammer. There are numerous tight spots when rotating the piston on the ball socket.
Then he decided to sand off the tooling marks from the anvil or whatever he used to reset the piston socket.
What do you guys think I should do?
Jason

Re: TD 15 I got off of ebay :(
aww, jeez. This is the reason why Cox changed the ball and socket to a pin in the TD .15 (the Special and the MkII has the pin style piston). If you don't think you can make this one work, search eBay for TD .15 and Sportsman .15 pistons, or if a pin style piston would do it for you, search for Medallion .15 pistons.
Re: TD 15 I got off of ebay :(
I vote for a return.
Personally, I would clean that socket area up really clean and blown dry, to show the obvious to him and Ebay if needed.

What is a TD piston and cylinder set worth? I just searched ebay and none to be found........
His listing states no returns so I'll see where this goes.

Here's what it is supposed to look like.
If you want to use this picture for an example to show the seller, feel free.

RE:TD .15 I got off eBay
Did the seller offer a return option? If not, I would ask for some type of compensation. He'll probably say that he didn't know the internal condition and refuse. Then I would appeal directly to eBay. They have an immediate way of getting results.
Years ago, I was just getting back into Cox engines, and I bought what appeared to be a new BW without a box. When it arrived it was a piece of junk that was coated in black wax boot polish that came off in my hands. It went into the junk box and was used to rebuild some other Black Widows later. I didn't persue the seller due to naiveness but I would now. I just wrote off the $25 as part of my eBay education.....Steve

I'm going to ask the seller for $50 off as this is what I believe it is going to take to get a decent 15 piston and cylinder set.

That might be your best bet, that way you have spares. Then roll the $50 into a special .15. That way you have a spare bottom end for it.
You may find a piston cylinder set on Ebay. I have seen 2 sets since Oct of last year.

I would go for some sort of refund as engine looked decent. I picked up a TD .15 MK2 for $25.00 at swap meet. Sold engine next day for alot more.

Item as described 45
Communication 45
Shipping time 45
Shipping and handling charges 44
His drs's are pretty terrible for obvious reasons. He is conducting a little bad business
I wouldn`t negative feedback him but a 3 or 2 on item as described.
2 only if he gives you a hard time with the refund since low drss 1 and 2' are detremental to a dsr score. If he gives you of bad issues or refuses.
Don't forget his
Return policy states
No returns or exchanges, but item is covered by eBay Buyer Protection
He may just say no refunds then just open a buyer protectin case youll get your money back faster than you can say licakdey
split
If you end up having to open a case negative feedback may have to be issued.
Negative, its sad when people leave negative feedback and should only be given as a last resort. My 500+ positive feedback came at somtimes great loss. I stand behind every single product i ever sell with no question I have lost lots of money but I feel i make more in the end

Re: TD 15 I got off of ebay :(
I agree it's better to take a slight loss to protect an excellent feedback score. It's better to keep shipping as close to auctual cost whenever possible. That way a seller is only out a couple of bucks or so.

Re: TD 15 I got off of ebay :(
Jason if push come to shove you could convert the piston the gudgeon pin style one.Jason_WI wrote:On the outside the TD 15 I got off of ebay looked great. One I got it apart I found some issues that I think warrant returning this engine to the seller for a refund.

It should not be too hard for you.

I will need a ball socket version piston as the Medallion pin version piston measures .005" bigger in dia. I have a number of 15's here. Olympic, Sportsman, TD, Medallion, and a RC Medallion.
The only piston/cylinder set that will work has to be from an Olympic, Sportsman, or an early TD. The Medallion cylinder does not have any boost flutes cut in like the TD, Olympic, and the Sportsman 15 cylinders do.
The wrist pin piston has extra wall material to support the wrist pin. There is no way to convert a piston to use a wrist pin reliably.

There is no such thing as "no returns accepted" on ebay. I can never figure out why sellers even bother stating this.
Try to negotiate with the seller and, if that does not work, file a SNAD on PP.
