Al,
It looks like the eraser end of a pencil.

But looking through that Travis I don't think there was a single verifiable
Fact.
Most of the 'facts' people repeat come from 3 websites which IMHO
Are at best a rough guide. In the Texaco thread there are lots of pictures
Of the engine in boxes but not one single date stamp.
What I'd propose is we have section listing engines but instead of pictures with
Comments from 'facts' only have dated mag articles or ads, box dates, till receipts
Or invoices. Apart from Wilfs dated articles I've not seen anything on
this site that would be peer reviewed in a serious study.
I think we have a great opportunity to have THE definitive reference library.
Here we go with the first verifiable fact....
In 1992 Texaco's were produced with a 3 fin head see above
Leaflet photo.
Well put John. That's what I wanted to say except I couldn't drag it out of my clouded brain.

Thanks guys, of course now I see it’s the eraser end of a pencil. I was trying to make it out as some sort of Cox accessory that I had never ran across. Duh…

At a glance, I thought it was an Estes rocket.

Re: Early engines
Online sites are usually pretty close, but my first NEW engine was a Space Bug Junior. Then came a used Space Bug, a used Thermal Hopper, a NEW Thermal Hopper, a NEW Babe Bee, and a NEW Pee Wee, and a NEW Olympic.
Of course I was somewhat NEW back then too. :-)
While in the Navy('60-'66) I acquired some, then new, Tee Dees. After that, I seem to gather various Cox engines from Conquest to Sure Starts, including a couple of the five-fin plugged Texacos.
I never met an engine I didn't like...except a Thor.
