Cox Engine of The Month
Before and After.......
Before and After.......
So I received this engine in trade from a guy overseas who assured me it was in pristine condition. Needless to say I was surprised when I opened the package. The guy in question likes to find engines that are submerged in water in fact he is restoring one now!
Be forwarned this is what you might receive from him. Keep in mind it looked worse when I got it. I actually cleaned it up before the photo.........

It has been said that you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear but, I did my best. With the help of 1000 grit wet/dry and some aluminum polish and some aid from Exmodelengines.
[img][/img]
I still need to do some more polish work on the venturi. I think it turned out well, it has loads of compression and should be a strong runner.
Many Thanks to Johnnie Boy and Matt from EME. Another one lives!
(I knew exactly what I was getting from John and I welcomed the challenge)
Thanks John!!!!!!!!

That's a great restoration --- good job. I would hate to see an engine that the seller claimed "needs some work".

Oh No!
Please understand that I was poking fun at John Goddard and I was fully aware of what I was getting in to. John Boy is one of our treasured members and I would never flame him intentionally.
Thanks for the atta boy though!

Seriously Ron that's a top job you've done there.
I haven't been able to find the real 'before' photo I think some idiot (hello) deleated it.

Nice work Ron.
Not to be a smart A but my TD .049 has a brass NVA and a carb venturi screen. Might the one shown be an later Estes version?
Just asking, not accusing mind you.

Nah because Ron's is a .09 and not a .049 and I believe that is not the original NVB because the original photo did not include it.SuperDave wrote:Nice work Ron.

Good eye Dave,
It should be brass colored like the drive plate. .09 NVA's are not overly common so when Matt offered that one to me for a good price I snatched it up.
It is actually an older pre Estes version without the milled cylinder. For wrench fitting.

Also forgot to mention the Venturi screen appeared in 1973 on the .049. I am not sure the .09 ever had one.

Thanks John, no worries about the pic. It was nasty enough to see a difference in the one I did.

Doh!! Boy, was I slow on the uptake.
Must have been a carry over from another group where the seller claimed the engine was new, never run --- and it looked rough, too.
