Re: Who is Building
Very nice build, of a classic old timer, good choice.
I am also a tissue and dope man but cover first with mylar
or Doculum (laminating film) for larger models. The mylar is applied using Uhu
Magic Stic as adhesive, heat shrink and then tissue cover in the normal way.
This gives an almost puncture proof finish.
The advantage of tissue finish without constant patching, do you
remember that? Some say this is lighter because wood does not absorb dope.
Looking forward to seeing completed model. John

Re: Who is Building
First, Thanks Indra for Trexlars, just the ticket, will have to finish the
model now. Thanks Joe for sending Conquest muffler and carb body
I owe you one.
Just finished Blink and ran the engine in my lounge, as you do and couldn't
figure out where loud beeping was coming. Smoke alarm!!
Medallion RC ran great and delighted with idle. Thanks Bastiaan of
Cox eu.
A few photos if I can remember how. 18" span, 7.8oz.

Re: Who is Building
Finished the Simplex, just waiting for the wind to die so I can maiden it. The only break I've had was a morning about 10 days ago when I did some gentle test glides at the park. As expected it was hard to get the CG forward (even with the nose stretched 1"), took about 3/4 oz in the nose to get it close.
Some pics:
Hoping to fly it soon. I have a Sig Cloud Ranger kit coming: 3 axis + throttled Queen Bee, should be fun.

Re: Who is Building
Hi ahrma_581, nice plane, I love the older stuff!
I built the Hellcat in the photo last week, had it done in one evening took appx. 10 minutes...
two screws and some tape!!!!
Ain't the 21st century cool!
P.S. small orange plane is from a winter build, my kids' getting pretty good with it.

Re: Who is Building
I wish you hadn't posted the photos of that Simplex!, I'm trying to finish one build at least before I start another, but now I've just had to download the Simplex plan and I shall probably be starting to build it before I finish the Honker! It's cruelty to modellers I tell you!

It's a little access hatch for plugging in battery, I don't use switches
on these wee ones. John

Ha!! It's an ejection hatch for the pilot --- he's going to be wanting out when that thing gets up to speed.
Re: Who is Building

Re: Who is Building
Pretty one, John.
I added some image tags for you, but a couple of them were cropped a bit so I left the links too.
Re: Who is building, I'm not building quite yet, just drawing plans, but I'll be cutting wood soon. Today I'm modifying and creating a speed demon, so I'll start a thread for that.

Re: Who is Building
Thanks Rusty for putting the pics, clicked the thanks button but not
sure what that does. Have now flown ' Twin Lizzie' and it is my best
FF model yet, slow stable left hand turn up to about 60 ft. then nice
gentle right turn. Just what Keith Laumer said it would, but who
believes that stuff.
Look forward to your thread, always enjoy them as I do fly CL too.
Always meant to ask you how you manage to put these long but
enjoyable passages in your threads cause I am almost out of space
in the dialogue box.

Re: Who is Building
In the lower right corner there is a handle you can stretch the box with. But it will inconveniently overlap the Preview/Send buttons and kind of get in the way. Or another option is, when you get to the bottom of the box, just hit the Enter key a bunch of times to get more room. Option #3 is, type it in Notepad or some other word processor. But then sometimes you have to pick through and fix a bunch of line breaks when you do that. I keep Notepad on my task bar because I use it to temporarily save URLs or save other text when I'm cutting and pasting, or frequently, forum posts so I don't lose my story by accident before I'm ready to submit.proctor wrote:... An easy workaround for that problem is to use line wrapping in Notepad instead of manually adding breaks.
Hit ENTER only if you want to have a new paragraph.
