Buckets crossed off

Buckets crossed off
David's (Chevelle) Aurora B-25 arrived yesterday nicely packed. FedEx made me wait though all the way into the early evening. I was about to make a call. Last piece of the puzzle for me but I would like to add an Aurora P-47 Thunderbolt control line. They are out there at a price. Also got the carpet pad for my RX-7.
A little crispy, I would be disappointed if it wasn't. Aurora's signature neoprene? elevator hinges have separated but otherwise in good shape.

Bob, The Ryan, 25, and 38 look to be close to the same scale, Makes for a neat photo…. Plus the fact they are rare birds….Like going to an air show and seeing a lot of unusual subjects gathered together…..I like these and your display room in general….Always like to see photos from there… Thanks for sharing!!

The Ryan measures 16", the P-38 24" and the B-25 25". Cox, Wen Mac, and Aurora. In my experience, Aurora makes the best plastic models, more scale like and much less plastic distortion.
The Ryan looks pretty much put together in the photo, actually the only thing holding it together is air. I have yet to lay a finger on it.
I don't think the B-25 has ever been fueled much less powered up. No castor residue that I can detect. Can't figure out if those engines are gold heads or simply rusted. I would not give that landing gear much of a chance for anything other than a perfect very soft landing. I doubt many survived. Control line lead-outs resemble Gilberts
Propellors are 5/3 Tornado tractors...both.
Mild clean-up. No room left to make it a wall hangar. Won't ceiling hang. Don't know what to do. I don't pursue these anymore, these just found me. I'm all ate up with RX-7. (NASCAR verbage)
The Ryan will get wall hung but I may have to squeeze it in. Not expanding this stuff beyond this corner of the house.

Re: Buckets crossed off
Bob, the B-25 has quite a dollar value to it. They were made in two versions, a flying version and a model version in which one assembled it. Even though the modelers version provided a bellcrank, it did have some differences in terms of support in certain areas. I saw one B-25 fly in the early 80's. It made it through the flight and never flew again. I owned the P-40 which one assembled. The fuse had a area which was molded to cut out for the Babe Bee cylinder. Tabs on the inside of the plastic retained the ears of the Bee. I actually flew mine, it was terrible and yes the plane pancaked in on the gear breaking the model. I think it was a lot nicer than the Cox version P-40. It had nicer detail. My buddy Dan has the P-47 and his is extremely nice and plans on flying it. My buddy Howard offered his B-25 to me. I tell him all the time I'm going to take it.

Thanks Ken,...........take him up on it...........take him up on it........take him up on it.......etc.

Yes, there is one on ebay right now @ $2750.00. $1150.00 more than I paid for my RX-7 which will pay for it's complete restoration.
Last one I saw went for $1250.00 also NIB..
P-47 on ebay also @ $1690.00
I have five of those giant size "Screwdriver series" kits. One provided the parts to repair one of the white SE-5's crushed by the postal service in transit. I built the " red Fokker D7" model from a kit. Excellent quality.
Notice the molded in canvas stiching down the center of the fuselage.

Re: Buckets crossed off
Hap Arnold chose Jimmy Doolittle shortly after the Pearl Harbor attack. Hap Henry Arnold was a graduate of my high school. One day I was in the older section of the school which had a larger gymnasium. This portion of the school was knocked down and rebuilt about 4 years ago. There were trophy cases which lined the hallways to the gymnasium and pool area. In these cases were old treasures of trophies and pictures. The football and track field across the street is known as Arnold field.
Funny things is that none of this was ever mentioned even in history class. I would bet that if the question was asked as to how and why the field received it's name, most wouldn't know.
