Cox Engine of The Month
Horsepower, torque, cubic inches and the Black Stallion

Horsepower, torque, cubic inches and the Black Stallion
I love the stuff.............Hp, toq, and CI
But moreover I love horses. Majestic, powerful, intelligent, and willing creatures.
I mentioned "The Electric Horseman" in another post to not much applause. This time it's "The Black Stallion" Francis Ford Coppola, Kelly Reno, Teri Garr, Mickey Rooney. From a kids book, but not really a kids movie. Production history is a story in itself, from the horse to the sets to the crates of Indian Cobras. From desert islands to farms in Canada it captures your attention.
Saw it on TCM a couple of weeks ago, ordered the DVD $3.80 + shipping. NIP.

I haven't seen the movie but I loved the book, one of the first real books that I read as a child.

Growing up pre-teen the library was my second home, Dudley Tucker library in Raymond New Hampshire. Visited a couple of years ago, They had added a new wing but other than that, the same building. Books stacked to the ceiling. A good friend and ex girlfriend gave a tour.
My take homes were Tom Swift and The Hardy Boys.
Also should have mentioned "The Horse Whisperer." Kristen Scott Thomas rocks in that movie too.
They picked Kelly Reno because he knew how to ride and handle horses even at a very young age.
From Wikipedia. I love the site and contribute to it frequently.
Cass Ole, a champion Arabian stallion, was featured in most of the movie's scenes, with Fae Jur, another black Arabian stallion, being his main double. Fae Jur's main scene is the one where Alec is trying to gain the trust of the Black on the beach. Two other stunt doubles were used for running, fighting, and swimming scenes
Wish I had been born in Kentucky, Montana, or Texas.
