Cox Engine of The Month
Tee Dee 020

Tee Dee 020
I'm just thinking 'out loud' here Guys but
Is there any reason other than one's tiny that bods seem to go mad for the 010 and not the 020?
And then why is it people seem likewise predisposed to PeeWee's over the TeeDee?
Anyone care to opine?

Here is my opinion....
The .010 Tee dee is a novelty/collector engine and a useful engine. Those that like park fliers and glow engines will gravitate towards the .010. The .020 TD is somewhat the same except a little too much power for the smaller park fliers. The Pee Wee is just plain more plentiful and affordable.
So that's why the .010 reigns supreme! The .020 TD commands high prices too just a little more scarce than the Pee wee. The Pee Wee is just more plentiful and affordable.
I have some of each and to be honest the .020 TD is the real powerhouse, rivaling a standard .049 except with a lot more RPM.
Top end parts for these engines are rare as Hens teeth.

Aha that sort of confirms what i thought Ron.
I think Indra really rates the TD020 as a quart in a pint pot.
I'm looking forward to getting the Aerobic finished for Peewee first then TeeDee.
I'm choosing words carefully here..... without wishing to sound disloyal I think I'm going 'off the boil' a bit with 010's
mine seems very tempremental.

John,
Have you torn your .010 down and gone through it under a magnifying glass? Maybe there is a hairline crack in the venturi body, or an air leak through the NV.
I have but one lonely .010 and besides being small it is as consistant of a runner as my other TD's. Perhaps you just need a new NV. Try some teflon tape on the threads and see if that helps some.

Re: Tee Dee 020
And I'd throw in that as "the smallest production engine ever made" the TeeDee .010 reigns supreme as a curiosity item. Visitors to our home recall Cox engines from their childhoods, mostly .049's. At that point I pull out my TD .010 and they are amazed at this tiny gem that can turn 30K RPM.
It is, and will remain, NIB for this reason.

Re: Tee Dee 020
Dave, I believe the DC Bambi was the smallest mass production engine.
But yes, the TD .010 is quite a conversation piece.

Dave,
Do you have a .010 not NIB? The reason I ask is that they are much more fun to run than display.
It may be a curiousity item for sure but, it is a dependable and robust engine that can be run without worry.

Re: Tee Dee 020
Two points:
The Cox .010/DC Bambi (a diesel) distinction hangs on the number made. References show the Bambi production number "unknown".
My limited vision makes small planes impractical so I treasure my TD .010 as a collector item. (BTW, it has good company)

.010/.020
Both fine in my book. The .020 is very good for new RC gear and more usedful. The .010 will allways be sought after as mass produced finest engine for its size. With red carb/gold case etc just plain purdy. The PeeWee is another fine little engine but tank holds very little fuel. The top end is same on P/Wee and TD .020. This I can not say for sure as never had neeed to take apart either. I have been told this by others ?? If you have ever run a PeeWee you know they can run hard. To bad vendors don't make a back assembly like the sure starts for the PeeWee to use external tank. I think a couple small Cox .020 planes had this. PT-120 Ryan/ F-100 Super Sabre Jet.
Mian reason .010 goes for more is supply and demand. They made more .020's as they were .049 power in smaller size. The .0010 is great engine but limits on useage in models.

It is still "unknown" exactly how many Bambis were made but it is know enough were made for it to be considered a production engine.
Another is the AE .1cc that i believe was a "production" engine.
RE: TD 0.020
My somewhat new perspective on the wee Cox engines is that my TD 0.020
and my TD 0.049 are a joy to use whereas my growing collection of reedies
are a bit of a fiddle to get just right. Currently using a pee wee with external
tank on latest 1/4 A model and found that it is necessary to open needle
to flood line to engine, return needle to running setting prime and start.
Bought TD 0.020 in the 80's when they were affordable.
Power wise I have used the peewee and the TD on the same model,
TD with prop on backwards, too much power, Peewee just about right.
Now speaking of Purdys my little Schlosser 0.25cc ( 0.015ci) ballraced
diesel comes to mind. Paid £120 for it and didn't blink, some engines you
just have to own. Expect you guys feel the same about your TD 0.010's

.010/.020
We all have some engine that we want. Just being on forum shows some sort of interest. Many fine little Diesel's out there but this is mainly Cox engines and TD's are very popular. Diesel's I have range from 1.00cc to 2.5cc and like them. Cox .010-.15 size like them better. The Cox engines I collect are early thur TD's series. Some later including .074 Queen Bee. If anybody is active flyer front induction engines are the way to go. Reddies have many problems and need extensive care. Yes they work but TD or at least a Medallion work so much better. Collecting is different , then all is good. All depends on what you like. So enjoy your little engines and have fun with them.
Cheers,Dan

You are a very lucky man!
Tell me if you want to swap it for something small and equally cool
RE: TD 0.020
My pals all thought I was nuts. I bought it at last years Nationals jumble,
it was new in box or should I say jewel box.
Mine is called an Auspuffsammler whatever that means.
Don't know the going rate for these but wouldn't dream of parting with it.
I notice though from a thread on RCU that Herr Shlosser is still making them
in all sizes, 0.25, 0.5 and 1cc. I can give you address and phone and fax number
if you wish, just pm me. Mine is free flight version they do some versions for
RC. They do not do e-mail and Benno does not speak English, his daughter
usually translates for him. He is 85 so you had best hurry as I don't expect
he will be making many more.
Is this a ' Production' engine ? Thought I might mention that just to stay on Topic.

Yes Benno's daughter translated for him he make 0.5cc and 1cc in RC and CL but the .25cc only comes as a CL/FF.
I came close to buying them a few times but they are over £200 now!
They definatly are not production engines!
If you won't give it to me then keep it forever and cherish it like a child!
They are true gems!
I already have a different .25cc in my life!
It is my 2 flick wonder!
Possibly the worst rep of any small diesel!
The clan .25cc.
Mine is just perfect!
