Great site, not just for the venturi seals, but for all sorts of O-ring needs. Thanks for the link.

There go the sales of our venturi gaskets

Low cost .049 o rings Crash_10

Just kidding and, if those o-rings work then, yes, they are really value-priced.

By the same token, this subject was brought up about 2 years ago on another forum. Although some buyers reported success with these, others complained of air leaks (and resulting irregular runs).

It was said that this was due to the fact the o-rings have round edges as opposed to the square edges of the OEM Cox venturi gaskets. If one looks at the seating of the OEM gaskets, one can see that the outside perimeter seals with the inside perimeter of the ventury gasket hole.

I have never tried those o-rings myself but if anyone does/has, please post results. If they really work well I will buy them there as we pay many times the price they are selling for there. Again, not knocking them but simply passing along what was stated on another forum.

Yes, our Cox gaskets are not really o-rings in the usual sense of the word, but just a round flat gasket. That gives it tie most surface area of contact between the two parts. A true o-ring would naturally have a smaller contact patch.

Just passing on info learned along the way from others. If there is a old one on the tank I leave it be and add the new one to it. So far it seems to work.

Rusty:

When compressed by the tank screws even an "O ring" flattens and conforms. How could it not?

Don't mean to steal anyone's "claim to fame" but I remember this discussion this form when it first started too.

They may well flatten and seal nicely. Some modellers said they worked and others said they don't. It could be a combination of whether a metal or plastic packplate was used, or a metal or plastic tank, as well as date of manufacture and parts wear.

This still being a hands-on hobby as opposed to the RTF alternative, I wholeheartedly support innovation, alternate sourcing and do-it-yourself. Personally, I hope they work well as I'll buy them there in such case.

I just brought up the subject as I recall posts about modellers buying them and not achieving the desiserd results; whereas others were happy.

Feel free to share results ...

Yeah, you're right about that, assuming they are squishy enough. Huh... Supple, that is. Laughing

We experimenters could come up with an innovation that's Bernie's next big idea.

Rusty:

When It first tried "cutting my own" venturi gaskets from silcone fuel tubing I experiented with the length until I found a length that "squished" enough to get good seal. That established I made a dozen or so which I'm still using in my BW's.

BTW, this is no big secret to anyone who reads this forum.

As far as I know, I was the first to use these (had a supply from my Dart throwing days) and have been using them for years. They seen to work very well and have never had a problem with them. They do compress a little to fit, being a O-ring the pressure on seal is uniform and probably superior to OEM.
