Fiesler Storch build (Tamiya)
Strange way to begin but yesterday I read the postings on things being better 50 years ago and struggled to disagree apart from technology.
I thought of the “toys” I had, enjoyed and wore out. After thinking about how I occupied my time on those wet and rainy days during the school holidays, I was always outside up to mischief in fine weather, I remembered building and painting Airfix kits.
Pop into Woolworths, see all the plastic bags of parts hanging there - part with two shilling (10p), Sixpence (21/2p) if I needed a tube of polystyrene cement (lovely smell!) and the occasional sixpence on a pot of Humbrol paint.
Birthdays, Christmas ………. I would elevate to a kit in a box. Even foreign kits like Revell.
Many hours spent making a smell and a mess.
Not done any plastrickery for years but recently I got a Tamiya kit. I got it because I was going to build a Fiesler Storch based on DW RC kit. Many build videos on YouTube but wanted to make it more scale. I thought having a plastic kit would help with this.
Also I thought that it being 1/35 scale - I wouldn’t need a huge magnifying glass as with 1/72 kits. I was very wrong.
Being me, I went the whole hog and bought the etched detail add ons for it but with all the covid shenanigans I shelved it.
I dug it out last night and gave it a good peruse. The detail, quality and fit is amazing. If all kits are like this then they are much, much better than 50 years ago.
Now for the ouch! The kit prices (allowing for inflation) seem to be on a par but paints and glues are expensive. The basic paints for this are 3 times the cost of the model.
Now for the !!!??******. The add ins and some of the kit parts are so small and delicate - not only can I hardly see them but my fingers are too big to pick them up.
Here are the photos I have taken prior to starting the build. The add ins are shown with a penny piece. New p not old d.

I will give it a go.
