Hot off the mail truck - Running a Throttled Wen Mac VII
I have never run one of these that I can recall. Unusual that the piston, throttle, or starter, was not locked-up so I thought I would give it a try. Wrong needle and severely bent, but I have others and selected the best.
Cleaned out the fuel tank and added fresh seven-year-old Cox 25%, primed the intake, flipped the prop a couple of times, added fire and using the starter let it go. Started first try running weakly. Reached for the NV and got knuckle smacked, these things still sting. Died.
Turned the needle out a turn and using the roto starter, got smacked again by the starter but it was running rich. Carefully turned the needle in a half-turn and ran the throttle between idle and full which was not very much.
Good first try, got to play with the fuel tanks position and try a different fuel. It will go on one of my P-26's.

Testers 049
Looking at your pictures gave me the impetus to dig out what I think is an old Wen Mac 049. However, it is stamped McCoy on one side and Testors on the other. It’s soaking now. I remember as a young teen that my flying buddies and myself never really got a Wen Mac airplane to fly. What is a miracle is just how easy it is for a kid to get a Cox to run, and the same thing with the Fox 35. I remember spending days with worn out McCoy Redhead 35’s trying to get them to run. Saving up and buying a new Fox 35 Stunt was a life changing event. It actually started and ran. I remember reading articles that Duke Fox did specific things to make them work for kids. Such as glow plugs that work down to 1.2VDC because batteries are expensive. The cylinder sleeve were made with leaded steel that would survive lean hot runs and still work once they cooled down.

I ran that throttled W/M just once Eric and put it on the painted P-26. I missed out on another a couple of weeks ago to an ebay sniper. He really wanted it as he beat my high proxy bid.
I have run standard W/M engines but not recently.
