Cox Golden Bee .049 engine.
Hello guys, I share with you a new acquisition that is waiting for it to arrive.
I am always looking on the web, which can appear here in the national market (Argentina) and sometimes interesting engines appear, this time I found a Cox Golden Bee .049 at a price of U $ S 20, so I took it .
I will share with you God through the process of cleaning this engine and operation.
If anyone wants to share data on possible year of manufacture or any other comment related to the engine, they are welcome to learn more about it.
Greetings to all!
(These images are taken from the seller himself exposed on the web)

Re: Cox Golden Bee .049 engine.
Love the Golden Bee!
The Golden Bee was my 4th Cox engine.
It first saw duty in a Top Flite P-40 Warhawk in the mid 1960's.
Later on my dad and I moved up to R/C airplanes the start of 1970 and my Golden Bee was installed in my first R/C plane which was a Carl Goldberg kit --- the Jr. Falcon.
That poor engine struggled to lift that heavy plane (Kraft "brick" radio and 4 cell "AA" Alkaline pack) into the sky.
I have a semi kit of the Jr. Falcon I picked up a few years ago and intend to build it and used lighter radio equipment.
With the lighter weight gear and better building skills, the Golden Bee should fly the newer plane better than the old one from the 1970's.
She's all cleaned up and waiting to fly!
Have fun MauricioB with your Golden Bee nd have many good flights on it like mine!

Hello Friend , You will have to take it apart to I.D. the year The Wikipedia says 1958 Golden Bee (Cat#120 - manufactured Oct 1957 – Jan 1980)
Custom built Golden Bee .051
The original Golden Bee was a Baby Bee that has a larger (8cc), stunt vented fuel tank and has been anodized gold. The larger tank allowed the planes to fly longer while the stunt vents allowed the airplanes to fly inverted without fuel running out or the engine cutting out. The first versions of the Golden Bee had a single bypass intake port and same size backplate venturi opening (0.0625") as the Babe Bee but later versions had a 0.082" venturi opening to 11/64" at the reed valve while the Babe Bee was 9/64". This was the secret to its slightly higher power output. The 1969 and later RC version with throttle sleeve had two bypass #1 cylinder making them slightly more powerful again to make up for power losses due to the exhaust throttle sleeve.[14] Link > https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cox_model_engine Should bee a Fun engine to run/fly

I have photos of both the early Golden Bee and the R/C version.
The Golden Bee with the black prop driver I have had since 1968.
The R/C Golden Bee I have had since 1974. Bought it with my paper route money ( I was in 8th grade)

Re: Cox Golden Bee .049 engine.
I took the job of disassembling, cleaning, and conditioning its parts.
The cylinder is a single transfer.
After assembling it, I started and the engine works perfect.
I hope you enjoy the video!

Re: Cox Golden Bee .049 engine.
I also own the R/C Golden Bee. You don't see this engine often. I've never run mine. I've owned it for probably 30 years. It looks as nice as the one in the picture. When I first purchased it, I thought someone added the throttle sleeve. I then came across a ad for the engine.

So I decided to place a throttle ring and test the Cox Golden Bee engine, I can assure you that its gear is very noble!
It is a really beautiful engine!

Nice video, Looks to be a mid to late 1970s version. I'm not entirely sure what year they switched from a #2 cylinder to the #1 dual bypass cylinder. The front drive plate is the later style.

Nice one Kim, I love those keepers.
Mauricio my first Golden Bee came in a blister pack. A major step up for me. Proud moment, probably went in a hollow log and disappeared over time.
Since probably my most bought Cox outside of the Babe Bee. For a long time I kept print-outs of my ebay buys, got a binder full. A good referance for time of purchase and price paid. Lot's of Golden Bees in there.
Golden Bees still grace my P-38 and Tri-motor, but many more just sit in display cases. Early to late.
Golden Bees = favorites.

Re: Cox Golden Bee .049 engine.
There's many variations of Golden Bee's. Some are very gutless but others offer Black Widow like performance. After reading this thread I went to take a peek and look for the ones I own. I have them somewhat scattered and my dad just offered me up a few that he had. When I lived at home, we had a box of this stuff and we would just grab whatever we needed. I remember he gave me a Lil Satan. He said build it and I will give you a new engine which was the Golden Bee. I remember the packaging, white cardboard background and black Cox lettering. My Lil Satan was neat as could be. The wings were metallic blue and red with a white fuse, Golden Bee on the nose. My dad flew the first flight, first lap right into the loops. It was a awesome sight.I remember him doing wingovers back to back, all I could think about was that I built that.
I have 4 more currently on planes. The one with the mill finish case was purchased as a Golden Bee. I have two of these which are both Golden Bee engines.

Bob, that's a brand new thin walled #2 cylinder in the package on the left of my engines. My dad had that a long time. I just found a case and tank. I will be able to cobble together a practically new engine. My case I found looks brand new.

I could see that it was a cylinder Ken, but I couldn't understand it's inclusion with the Golden Bees. New #2 cylinder with a new case etc. and you have a newly reconstructed Golden Bee just like the factory did many years ago.

Re: Cox Golden Bee .049 engine.
I found another Golden Bee last night. This is one that doesn't have the bold gold look to it. It has rather a very pale faded with a touch of pinkish tinge to it. I know some of these engines would fade. My example though looks great with no marks on the tank. I found many Black Widows and while internally are great, the exteriors have been abused.
