Iced Tea Help Please......

Iced Tea Help Please......
Hi all. So I have finally been through a long enough withdrawl here that I have finally broken and decided to ask of help from my American friends. This may just be a silly question, but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
So I am looking for advice on how to make traditional iced tea. Up here we get the crystals that also have too much sugar. I have tried a few standard tea brands without sugar added and still cannot get the correct taste that I love. Tried with both hot water, and as well left in cold water for a couple of days to take its time, but still no joy. Just standard unsweetened iced tea, best I can explain what I like and am hoping to one day achieve is that of the iced tea I get when I go to Hardees, or other fast food restaurants, etc when I come down to the USA.
Any help in locating what I am after would be greatly appreciated. Even if you like and make your own iced tea and would like to share your recipe I would also be game to try it. Thank you in advance.

I do however have a small fear that the tea used will be something not available to me here hindering my quest. But even if I can get things lined up, next trip south (whenever that may be), I will be ready to stock up!

Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
Good question. I love a good icy glass, but I'll be damned if I could
whip a up pitcher. My go to is the internet. You don't need any fancy
tea, a decent of tea bag brand will do the trick. I can suggest one
thing, look into a Sweet Tea recipe. Sweet tea originates in the
Southeast U.S and it is the king of hot summer
refreshment for me. Mmmmmm.
Here's one.

Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
I am a “gadget geek”, my wife hates it! I really liked George Formans grill, Popiels pocket fisherman, hot air popcorn popper, soda stream soda machine, Belgium waffle maker, Shaved Ice drink maker. Drank only Fresh Brewed coffee, usually a Bunn double brewer at the employee break room at work, or a Mr Coffee at home. Bought a “Mr Coffee Ice tea “ maker, and I love it! As with any of my food gadgets, they get top shelf in the storage closet so as not to clutter up her kitchen! But the Mr Coffee Ice Tea maker is just Wonderful! Let me see If I can find a linc...
Mine is a older model thats all white with a clear pitcher. Here’s the current unit:

Too funny. I wonder now if we're related. I got both Foreman grills, regular and mini, pocket fisherman (use it to play with my cat), hot air popper (love it and use very regularly ), no soda stream yet but investigating (but did have the original years ago, called Sodamistic), waffle maker that I should use again, and a small manurl shaved ice maker, and a Keurig that the missus uses primarily. Kinda funny if you ask me. But I wI'll look at the iced tea maker in a minute. Thank you.
Almost forgot the Insta Pot that I had to have. I still hear about this one very regularly as well....

Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
Well, I am no connoisseur when iced tea is concerned, and the beverage in question is practically unknown here in Finland. I got familiar with it during my years in the USA. Some places had pretty good tea, some not that good. I am pretty sure the fast food places and chain restaurants had some kind of syrup that they use for making their tea, in a same way as their Coke or Pepsi (or the SodaStream syrup). The tea you could buy off the soft drink section at the grocery store was generally way too sweet for my taste. I am not a big fan of artificial sweeteners or flavours either.
Here’s a recipe I have used, I usually like the way it turns out. I skip the spearmint extract, use way less sugar (or sometimes honey) and the teabags are either Lipton Yellow Label, lemon or mint. But the process is as described. Not for a sudden urge, you’ll need to think ahead
It’s from one of my favourite cookbooks, has Killer recipes for fried chicken, buttermilk bisquits, real salsa and fajitas, and other Texan/American classics that are rather unknown around here, but largely responsible of ”my growth as a human being” (25 lbs or so) while I stayed over there.

I throw a 2 quart measuring cup of water in the microwave for 12 or so minutes (it doesn't come to a boil, but steams). Then toss 4 regular Lipton tea bags in it to brew until it comes down to room temperature. Occasionally walking over and bobbing them up and down a few times every so often. Once at room temperature, toss it in the fridge.
Serve over ice and if desired sweeten with sugar, or sugar substitute. I've been using Sweet'n Low lately.
For awhile I was making a simple syrup with sugar to brew the tea in, but it's been awhile. I forgot how much sugar in so much water. I'll have to think about it.

https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/109190/smooth-sweet-tea/ Makes 2 qts. Baking soda is a key here but just a pitch 1/8 tsp. Omit sugar for unsweetened . Lipton tea bags / Louisiana is good too . My first wife and i made Sun tea that was off the hook too .. https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/sun_tea/ Its all about preference There are NO dum questions here .

Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
Great guys. Thank you so much. I love all the ideas! Now to just get cracking and do it after finishing my last batch my mom made me. We save all orange juice bottles and such and she makes lots. I think she has over 15 bottles to go. Then I will start experimenting with these recipes.

Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
I used to use my 12 cup drip coffee maker. Put 4 or 5 tea bags in the basket and brew 12 cups. It comes out very strong and would add the same amount of plain water.

Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
That tomahawk looks yummy
Surprisingly no recipe for that or other styles of rib steak
I have a 2.5 lb chunk of entrecote in the fridge, maybe I’ll fire up the grill on Sunday. Just have to decide between cutting it into steaks or grilling it in one piece. I have done both before, both very good.
How is that tomahawk usually prepared? I have the mid-size Weber, not sure if the lid would close with that thing on the griddle

Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
Well Kari. I wish I could answer you with a proper answer, but truth be told teh answer I will give you is I do not know yet. I am going to search something in the next day or so. I was thinking and hoping to do it just as a standard steak, but will do a search just to be sure.

I would personally try Jacobs method above. Lipton regular tea is a mixture of Orange Pekoe and cut-Black tea-leaves. Celestial Seasonings has a similar blend. You may want to slice-up a fresh lemon.. and add it while brewing. Serve chilled!!! Maybe try some local "honey" to sweeten a glassful. Hope you find a good flavor!
Re: Iced Tea Help Please......
Thanks guys. I am looking forward to trying these out starting hopefully next week. Just gotta help drink up the current stash....

Episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond." Raymond is dining out with his wife's definitely uptown family at an exclusive NYC restaurant when the waiter brings out a tea cart with a selection of exotic teas and Raymond asks "Do you have anything in a Lipton?"
