I haven't posted anything for a while, somehow just seem to be too busy, but I have managed to keep viewing others posts and to throw in a vote for the engine of the month competitions.

Last year over covid, like others, I spent a lot of time at home, which is normal for me anyway, with the only real inconvenience during our lockdown being that I couldn’t go out and buy any parts I needed.
This meant that I could do all those jobs where I had already squirreled away the bits needed but never seemed to find time to get to.
Well, one such job was making stands for my Shrike tether cars.

I see quite a few of this type of thing being done on 3D printers but I don’t have one and I tend to do things the old-fashioned way anyway.
I also managed to finally finish cleaning, repairing or full restoration of all my Shrikes.
So here goes.

First, I made a prototype.

Shrike stands Shrike22

Then once I was happy with that, I started on production.
Ten Shrikes, one custom Shrike and one Prop Rod called for twelve stands.
Prototype in top left corner.

Then the supports were glued to the rear of the stands.

Then nailed for extra support.
Overkill I know but I sleep better for doing it.  sleep

In the bottom right corner, two have extra modifications.
The hole is to allow for the switch on the R/C Shrike and the extra piece on top of the one beside it
is for the custom Bumble Bee Shrike which has taller wheels.

Since the wood is quite plain, I added a bit of Kiwi grain, also known as shoe nugget.  lol!

Then a couple of coats of boiled linseed oil and wallah.  Laughing

And here they all are. Every variation (that I know of) of Cox Shrike production.

I was interested first time around but the price was far too much. The price I see is reduced but in New Zealand dollars it would still cost around $660.00 once our 15% was added to the total.  And it still  looks as though it requires more work.

More projects I do not need. lol!

Thanks Eric.
No haven't run it yet. I have to make a bracket to hook the tether to. The two mounts that are part of the belly pan I'm not sure if they are up to holding the car on their own so I'm going to make a bracket that uses them but also connect to the twin engine mount as well. That's bolted to the belly pan so should be enough to keep hold of it.

I always enjoyed your projects Dave.  Your twin on pedestals is a work of art not to be exceeded.

Your stands also and serve the purpose of getting the tires off the ground eliminating flat spots.

Mine work, but are a little less sophisticated.  Smile

Dave, I really like the stands. I used to work the auto shows
at the old N.Y. Coliseum while in high school. A few of the
cars were displayed on jack stands, wheels off the floor.
I thought it was a great look for a show. 50 years later, it
still works. Nice.

And the good thing about the stands is the wood was all free. Right next door is a timber/ building hardware company and most days there is a big skip bin out the front with free wood. Full of offcuts from 1/4" x 1" up to 2" x 6" about a 10 yard walk from my front gate.

The Goodie Bin was out today ready for inspection and being right next door I usually can get first dibs on it. Very Happy
Many people stop and for whatever reason help themselves as it's all free.
In winter, which we are closing in on, it doesn't last long and by the end of the day it'll be empty.

Hi Eric
About 20 to 30mins drive away.
One thing about living in New Zealand is, no matter where you are, you're never far away from the coast lol!
