Cox Engine of The Month
I quit smoking

I quit smoking
Yea.. my last cigarette puff/toke.. was after Lynne and I went to Sturbridge, MA for our 10th wedding anniversary in 2017. I'd been a cigarette-smoker since I was 14 years old. I'd quit twice in between.. for enough time to know-better than to start smoking again. It's been just over 3 years now since I've had a cigarette.
Quitting the butts has been hard for me. They'd been a general coping-tool that I didn't know I had.. until I quit. I also loved to smoke cigarettes when having to "drive long distances". Now I don't like having to drive long-distances..
While Lynne and I were in Sturbridge, I had fortune to find some Cox engines on consignment at the http://www.hogheavenhobbies.com/ a family-owned hobby-store. The type that you'd want to visit if you're ever in this locale.
If you're a cigarette smoker; do yourself a favor and throw them away.

Yea.. I QUIT!! and haven't smoked a butt in over 3 years. I mentioned the "coping-tool" thing. That's a tough tool to let go of.

CONGRATS RODDIE !
You should be proud of your accomplishment. It is no easy feat to get off the nicotine sticks! I know whenever I pull into a "service station" for Gas, I see the advertisements for Moroburo or Newports on sale for $8.95 a PACK ! ! ! Holy Crap, I have no remorse in spending $35-60 bucks on a little engine, knowing I am not spending $10/day on smokes!! So should you!

Re: I quit smoking
Reinforced by a second post roddie. Shows strength and resolve.
What are cigarettes now...$24 a carton, I don't know, a best guess. My youngest daughter still smokes even after a fall broke her jaw and had it wired shut for a month and couldn't smoke. Moved her in with me and I fed her through a straw. 30 days plus without a ciggie butt and she started again. I could have kicked her butt!!
Economically I could never see the sense, add in the negative health aspects and it was a no-brainer for me and my wife. yet both of our daughters smoked without a role model. Friends are a great social incentive to fit in.
Said it here before, my older brother quit smoking and drinking cold turkey after a heart attack, another great incentive. My oldest daughter quit after she broke her leg. Glad that you did not have to come to those extremes before you quit.

Re: I quit smoking
my particular experience has made me do some soul-searching. I decided to look at my life from as early as I could remember.

It 's been hard. My hobby dreams. have become obscured... but I know it's only temporary.
Re: I quit smoking
I'm right there with you, brother. I quit about a
year before you(you know that), and the one
thing that made me stick to it, was not wanting
to die on my wife. I would hate to put her through
that if I can avoid it. Sorry, may be a little morbid.
I'm happy as hell you've stayed true to yourself.

Re: I quit smoking
They say quitters never win, but quitting cigarettes is one of the exceptions
Congrats to both of you for staying strong. Set all that money aside and buy some engines (or fuel) instead
I’ve never smoked on a regular basics, but munching chocolate during the day and sipping wine while staying up waaay too late are some things I’ve tried to get better about. The struggle is real.

Please please please everyone of you kick me in the butt for smoking again, kick me as hard as you can please...
I quit 3 times now, but a stressful situation caused me to start again, with rolling tobacco.
Having a plastic card makes it so easy to buy the stuff, if I only stuck to cash, enough cash for my shopping things would be easier.
Nicotine is highly addictive, much more than some drugs even...and it's legal ! I must must stop smoking, it's my "release" birthday soon, April is stop smoking month for me, it's finally the time.

Re: I quit smoking
Thanks everyone; so much for the support. That Sturbridge, MA 10th wedding anniversary-weekend in December 2017, I ended-up coming down with the flu.. and by the middle of the following week; Lynne got it too. She's not a smoker. She'd actually gotten a flu shot that season.. and ended up w/pneumonia.
I was coughing so bad.. it was scary. Lynne ended up taking me to the emergency room where she was later diagnosed. The coughing made it impossible to smoke.. and I'm glad it did. I didn't need anything else to help me quit. No nicotine supplements of any kind. I actually started eating Popsicles. .. by the boxful..
The neighboring state of Massachusetts recently banned the sale of flavored tobacco products including menthol cigarettes. I used to smoke "Newport" menthol 100's.. about one pack a day.. and a bit more on the weekends.
At the time I quit; a pack of my brand cigarettes was over $10.00. I had roughly a $75.00/wk. $300.00/mo. habit. CRAZY!

Re: I quit smoking
Exact date un certain, but around 5th grade (1964-65) on Taiwan I got busted "kiping" my moms Chesterfields.
They did the smoke a whole pack thing and I did not turn green and puke...
Fine sez they..if you gonna smoke you buy your own. Dad was a Army Captain.
July 2018 54 years later I was 3 pack a day chain smoker with COPD scaring the hell out of me so wife who had quit a decade earlier help me through Nicotine patch step down and quit
I have an occasional small Swisher Sweet cigar as a treat but never will addict myself to something so medically and economically stupid.
and Like Roddie before me and now, YOU CEF guys were and are super cheer leaders and supporters...amazing how much we can come to appreciate care and concern from folks we have yet to meet F2F
Congrats Roddie...
I should calculate how much I have saved since July 2018....mine were right at $5 a pack

Congratulations, Roddie. I quit smoking on January 17 of this year, after a trip to the ER. Smoked for about 50 years.

Way to go guys! Keep it up. Coxfledgling, we’re pulling for you!
Look, I need you guys to be around for as long as possible to keep the forum lively with your daily posts, also making memorial banners isn’t fun.
I searched the internet up and down but couldn't find a "kick butt" smiley... so I made one... lol

Good one Jacob,
Yes, laughing together is a lot better than laughing alone or not laughing at all.

Re: I quit smoking
One of the - to me- cutest street banners I saw somewhere in Georgia US read: "bin the butt"...to me a non-native speaker it took some time before I understood what it meant..you can adopt it also as an ultimate move to save your health..
