Re: Is this car a good buy? (I won it!!)
So my starter cable came today
I test ran the engine and man it’s cool.
I’ve never ran an engine with a recoil start, or exhaust throttle for that matter, so it was a neat experience for me. It starts soooooooooooooooo easy, idles nice and quiet, revs nice and is fun to run
Also
I got all the parts I need, so now on to installing everything!

IT DRIVESSSSSS
FYI this setup is only temporary, but it drives! Pretty nicely too. I know the engine is out of tune, and I think the clutch spring is too tight, so I’ll fix that this evening.
More testing tomorrow morning!

Pictures of current setup
Took this earlier, only good picture of it as of right now
Here’s how I have my electronics set up- I’m using the original switch, an ovonic air 850mAh 2s lipo, a radiolink R6F, and two hitec HS225BB servos. They are “mini” size- just smaller than a standard size and bigger than a micro servo. I used pieces of a lawn mower air filter as shims where I needed it.

Re: Is this car a good buy? (I won it!!)
Great work!
It does drive well, a little rich, but yeah it moves along nicely. If I could impart some wisdom get a small syringe and fill it with fuel. Open the throttle to expose the exhaust ports and drop a few drops of fuel in the cylinder to prime the engine. You won’t have to pull the starter cable as many times before it fires and begins to draw fuel on it’s own.
I am jealous! Still acquiring a few things for mine. I didn’t have the factory receiver so having to fabricate the servo setup, battery placement, tank placement etc.
Ron
Edit: Just saw David’s post, I agree a little more oil maybe 22% 1/2 castor 1/2 synth, but don’t shy away on the nitro. At least 25%. I don’t use anything less than 35% on anything I use. Nitro allows the engine to run cooler and gives a significant boost in performance also aids in setting the needle. Too much nitro however, you start to burn through glow plugs!

Re: Is this car a good buy? (I won it!!)
I’m waiting on my heatsink and 1 fin head, also for now i have the body off so I’d imagine it’s getting pretty good cooling airflow I’m using sig champion 25%. I think it has 22% oil, 1/2 klotz and 1/2 castor iirc. Also i used some of that air filter for a supplement to the screen for filtering and I’m pretty sure its starving it of some air, cuz after those videos it just would not tune right. I’m taking it off for tomorrow.
Aaand i solved my weird clutch problem- the clutch bell was really loose on it’s spindle so I figured I’d put some oil on it to help it spin without much wear. Apparently that was a bad idea because when i took it apart just now there was oil on the clutch shoes and the inside of the bell. I cleaned that up and it should drive better tomorrow.

I’ve done that before... I guess I just forgot about it tonight since I’m not used to running non- muffled enginesCribbs74 wrote:If I could impart some wisdom get a small syringe and fill it with fuel. Re: Is this car a good buy? (I won it!!)
The one fin head is for the GTP. Nothing wrong with using it I suppose, but they are not as easy to come by. If you purchased part #1970 it works with standard heads and
which are cheaper and plentiful. It may not work with the one fin. Wish I knew you needed a heat sink, if you mentioned it I didn’t see it. I have a spare.
Sig is 20% oil but still 1/2 and 1/2.
The stock screen is good enough, it won’t keep out dust and fine particulate, but Cox engines are tougher than they look. Keep some spare cylinders for the long haul.

If it’s this one it will fit over the glowhead you currently have on the engine.

My spare is the same. P/N 1970. Look close at the picture. It’s what Jerobee would have installed on the car when it came out of the factory.

Re: Is this car a good buy? (I won it!!)
Thanks for the advice David. I just ran it and it’s running a lot better now, I’m having radio issues, but it’s running much better now without the air filter and without the clutch slipping. More running and vids coming this evening

Man
I REALLY underestimated this car
I’ve got it all dialed in now and boy does it move! It accelerates really fast, it idles fantastic, it does donuts , and overlord you were right about needing a big parking lot- it’s top speed is ridiculous. My iPad died so i don't have very good video, i took a kinda bad recording on my flip phone coming soon
