Holidays 2020
hi all. Just want to say hi and that I am officially on holidays for a week. Here is the start of it. Trying to forget the mosquitoes that are visiting and killing me here. Got a nice drink of ginger ale and some rocket fuel to keep me company here at my cottage. Anyways, here is the fire and some more hopefully great pictures to follow tomorrow! And also if all goes well, some awesome engine running as I brought my lil gems along for the ride. 06.28.2020

We've scheduled a Gun Day over at Rory's "Thunder Valley", with everything from B-B Guns to Barretts, mixed with bugs, and maybe a snake or two!

Thanks all. Sorry for not more pictures today as it was a stay indoors day for the most part. Temps stayed at 107 Fahrenheit with the humidex plus for the whole day. Tomorrow is not looking much better! But depending on it, may go cruising for more pictures down the river.

Enjoy your holidays Chancey.
Somehow I had you on the West Coast, BC. Finally checked your location and read about Oakbank in Manitoba. Yes, it can get hot there unlike the West Coast. You must get down to the Dakotas on occasion. Nifty little town Oakbank.
We toured Quebec one summer, but didn't get very far West.

Re: Holidays 2020
I'm looking forward to the holiday this weekend. We decided to have Foxberg racing and Clown racing. I took out the equipment and blew the dust off of it. It's been a while. John Saunders ran the racing events at Brodak's and he stepped up to oversee this weekends racing events. A few guys have been testing over the past few weeks. My son and I make a good team. He's the pilot and I'm the pit guy. I'm really hoping that most use the traditional Fox .35. Were using Brodak rules which allow the use of a LA .25. I suggested mouse racing but the interest just wasn't there.

Re: Holidays 2020
Thanks. Yes, we do get down to North Dakota and Minnesota frequently for shopping and just to visit and get away. Mostly Fargo and Grand Forks North Dakota. Thief River Falls, Roseau, Strathcona Minnesota are the others frequented. I was very upset though as I was headed to the US for my spring holidays then they shut the borders due to Covid, so I am patiently waiting so I can come down.
Been still absolutely hot here with the humidity keeping it around a steady 105 Fahrenheit still, so I have not yet done any engine running or modeling activities.
As for the promised pictures, sorry, they will have to wait till I come home Sunday. Reception here is sporadic and very little so cannot upload easily.

Re: Holidays 2020
There are a coupel duplicates, but want to say that there are 4 small 'waterfalls' on teh river, and 3 of them are pictured above, as the fourth was flowing a bit quick and am just getting used to the new-to-us pontoon boat and its capabilities, and to get into the last falls is a bit tight and tricky. The old derelict building is known out there as the 'red roof', and was once a schoolhouse. The river we are on and where the pictures are taken was at one time a very small stream, and the lake was for farming and such. Back in the day, Manitoba Hydro flooded out the area to make the new chain of hydro generating dams. Lastly to mention about the tractor. It is not a John Deere as it is painted (but cannot remember exactly what it is), just that someone took the time to paint it up as such, but personally liked it better with the little red with rust that it was. It had fallen through many, many years ago in either late spring or early winter while hauling logs.

Re: Holidays 2020
I can tell from your pictures Chancey that you are a lover of nature.
Your pictures could pass for New Hampshire except that your conifers are quite different in height and texture. Love the river pictures, they could pass for the Lamprey river that flowed right behind our house in Raymond.
Swift moving but still it would freeze in the winter leaving a U shaped open area flowing in the fastest part. We built a bon fire one night on the ice and I skated well beyond it's light right into it. Wool clothes and I bobbed right to the surface with the current carrying me toward the ice. I held out my arms, caught the ice and the current brought my legs beneath it. Buddies formed one of those "human chain" things and pulled me out. Probably about ten years old I shivered my way up to the house, Mom stripped me and tossed me in a warm bath tub.
Tractor confuses me, looks like it's an old steel wheeler sitting in the water?
Did you ever start fixing up that old riding lawn mower?

Re: Holidays 2020
Thanks for the comments. Yikes. Must have been a terrifying experience skating right into open water. Glad though that you are here to tell us about it.
As for the tractor, yes, it is a steel wheeler. I am upset as I thought the picture was better until I just saw it today. I will get a better picture of it next weekend and get up closer.
As for my little tractor, I did clean the carburetor out, and it did start and I went for a little drive. I need to do a bit more fiddling around with the throttle cable to get it set up and adjusted properly followed by a rear tire repair I had forgotten about. I was just busy the past bit doing stuff around the yard, then getting ready to go on holidays. I am hoping I will find some time this coming week to play with it a bit more. But I have a couple things to do first with helping my parents neighbor out tomorrow or Tuesday for the afternoon/evening, gotta see if my golf cart is ready to pick up as I blew a coil on it last Sunday so it is in the repair shop getting fixed. Then as I have yet to run ANY engines this year, I would like to do that cause I miss both the smell and noise! I will update on the tractor when I do get back to it whether good or bad. I have my eyes open for a replacement carburetor, but will order a rebuild kit if it does not work properly if I have to.

Wow! Great scenery! That tractor looks like a good catch if you go “magnet” fishing, but you might need a crane to lift it up and out!

Re: Holidays 2020
It would be neat to have for sure. It is a nice piece of history, and after over 30 years out there, I still look at it every time I pass it, both coming and going. I was right up at it once with my tinner fishing boat, but that was a few years ago. When I get it in teh water this year, I will definately take a few more better pictures.
