Walker
I recently made a Firebaby from plans. Real cute as I used ink to copy colors. I made a second copy thay need to be assembled. Also made a Pursuit Rubber band job as it used same wing and tail feathers. I may make the finished Firebaby into a Bipe as I made an extra wing. I have a good friend in Wa. and he sent me plans for Fireball + the carved body for original 1939 version. 2113 will be VSC 25 and I plan on having a display there. I have some color add and will have several Walker planes. This is Vintage Stunt Championship contest that is a five day contest held each year in March. Tucson,Az is the place. Next moth will be VSC 24. Its been held for that many years.
I was not active in Walker hayday. Not even born then. When I got to fly power in early 60's Walker items were pretty much history. Some gliders/ rubber items but thats it. Bill Macy tried to get Walker items back into production and some were sold. He died recently and family just sold it off and nothing is available. Brodak I think makes a Firecat kit. Better plane than Ringmaster and is OTS legal.

Re: Jim Walker's birthday
Jim Walker and LeRoy Cox are now gone but so are the times when they made their legendary contributions to model aviation. It was a simpler time in a far less complicated world never to be seen again. Those of us who have been in the hobby for a considerable length of time can appreciate that we have lived through a glorious era where our memories are enriched by association with these two pioneers.
But so it is with heroes which are increasingly hard to find in today's world. So, yes, earlier and simpler times revealed lots of them to our young minds. It is the role of we older modelers to beome the mentors and examples willing to share our knowledge and experience rather than to keep it within our private memories. As a grandfather I consider that my extreme priviledge.
