Countersunk 5-40 screw for Cox tether car wanted
Does anyone have the countersunk 5-40 screw that holds the flywheel/gear assb.to the crankshaft of my Cox GT40 tether car .049 engine? I am also in need of 2 hubcaps for the same car. They have a wire wheel pattern on them.

I guess there is no answer for you. You are on your own for the wheels, but for the screw, you can sometimes find the 5-40 bolts at hardware stores. Look under 1/8" stove bolts. I used to see them all the time but passed them by because they were countersunk, and I didn't need that. I used the longer ones for studs on some spinners though. It may not be original but may get you going.

Thank you for all the replys.I will most likely have too make the 5-40 screw on my lathe. When making screws this small it is easier too buy them if possible.I will purchase the hub caps on ebay for my GT40 tether car.

You must be good on the lathe! That’s mighty small for me to try and turn, even if I had a lathe!!
Don’t know if you are anywhere near a Menards, HomeDepo or Lowes, but they seem to have a decent selection of machine screws in the #4, 5 and 6 sizes. If not here’s some from our old friends at Tower Hobby:

It can be made on the lathe, but it would be much easier too purchase the screw than trying too make it.I have made small screws and bolts before on my lathe and they are a pain too make them!
