I would expect a TD stuck on the front of a plastic RTF to sulk, and refuse to start! It's a bit like sticking a Rolls Royce engine in a Ford Anglia (THAT gives my age away! Ford Anglia was a small, basic, '60/70s car as seen in Harry Potter, but I could never get mine off the ground!)

I remember when I was looking for another .049 engine after I got my first Cox. I really wanted a Spitzy. I loved the way the drum looked under it. I got outbid though. It went for around twenty dollars. I ended up getting an OK Cub.

I have an Anderson spitzy mine runs bad as it has next to no compression.
Re: Non Cox .049s
The first Cox engine I had bought was the RC Flyer. I had no clue what I was doing so I ran the crap out of it on Nitro Car fuel and then Cool power. Obviously I began having issues running it. Did the same thing to a parts engine. It got to a point where my dad was about to make me quit with them. I spent hours trying to figure out what went wrong. Then I got a Golden Bee RC on a CG Lil Wizard. That is when I decided to research on the fuel and found out what I was doing wrong. Got the proper fuel, got the Golden Bee going and it ended up my best running (only had two that would run) engine. That also got me started in control line which I am eternally grateful for. Now my Golden Bee is on my Cox Sportavia awaiting the Traveling Prop.

Here's my latest acquisition, OK Cub .049 B with pull starter..
I fitted a new (genuine) pullcord, only to find that the recoil spring that is supposed to pull the cord back in after starting is broken. Since I think my chances of finding a new spring, and instructions for fitting it, are probably very low, (Although I will contact OK Engines and try) it's unlikely that I'll be starting it with the cord.
Wilf,
I probably got an extra spring and a tank for that, shoot me a PM with what else you might need/want and I could get a package together

"Bring me your poor, retched, scratched, and gummed up refugees" My fondness for strays keeps the collection going! This poor Torpedo looks like it probably shared a few toolbox decades with some wrenches, screwdrivers, and hammers!

This is an .049. It's missing it's fuel tank, which was supposed to plug into the case's underside.

Yeah...feels good to give them a little TLC, doesn't it? My next-up, when I get a chance to take it's photo, is a Royal Spitfire...chipped exhaust, chipped intake, gouges mounting holes and generally beat up...it's got the "Good Life" now!
