Tachometer For Iphone
Does anyone have experience using an acoustic tachometer using an iPhone? Balogh kindly told me a good one for Android. However my Android phone is on the fritz. But my iPhone is ok. What acoustic tachometer for iPhone can also work like RPM Guage for Android?
Thanks

The Acoustic RPM is the one I use on Android phone and is pretty accurate.

Andras, does your Acoustic RPM app have an icon that looks like this:
I have that one, but have yet to test it on anything dependable.

Balogh, how did you tape the phone to the wing for the flight? That's cool!

Re: Tachometer For Iphone
Jim,
it was a small key-chain camera fixed to the wing with a Velcro tape, with which I shot the vid then uploaded it on youtube.
(This is a similar in-flight vid I posted on youtube ...)
Then, opening and playing the youtube vid on my phone in split screen mode allows me to run the RPM Gauge app in parallel, and the sound of the vid played on my phone is used by the app on my phone to calculate the engine rpm...and the split screen mode allows the simultaneous viewing of the vid and the RPM Gauge app both. Then it is only a matter of screenshot that finally made that picture that I posted here.

Cool! I thought that is how you did it. I just could not wrap my head around the app "listening" through the phone while the video played on the phone. Did you have to do anything special to port the sound in software to the Tach app? Or was it simply "make sound over speaker," and listen to sound via the microphone?

It simply senses the sound the phone emits while playing the video...nothing special..

That is a really cool picture of the .051 cruising along. Very nice. Decent RPM as well.
Thanks

Best Tachometer Cox Engines
I read through a few articles on the Forum. I am definitely Not Tech Savy, and don't have an I Phone for a decent app for a tach. Fine with my Android Samsung Galaxy2. I had picked up an old New in the Box Hobbico Digital Mini Tach for earlier projects. I am now Very interested in a Hand-Held Tachometer, that does not cost an arm and a leg. I have been performing a few modifications to the good old Cox 8cc Production engine. Deck Height, Tank and Backing Plate modifications, glow head testing and so on. The RPM's I am coming up with on the Old Hobbico cannot be right, swinging a 5-2Prop.
Would someone out here in the Forum be kind enough to make some suggestions?
Respectfully, Jim P Jenuine-Motor
P.s. Please don't recommend building a Tach, I already have too many "Irons In the Fire"
