It's been 36 degrees here today (which is probably about 95-100 for the US guys) and it hasn't really been much better since June. Long story short, there is no grass on the airfield, and if there is any left, it's not green.

That’s roughly the weather all over the US right now. We had so much rain in the spring we could barely keep our heads above water, now it’s dry as a bone! You have to laugh!

Ken Cook wrote: Your thinner is responsible for the blushing you mention in humid weather. Finding a slower evaporation thinner is your best option if possible. While it's best to avoid using it in humid weather all together it can be somewhat resolved by just dusting the model with straight thinner in a spray gun. This will open the top coat and allow the blush to escape. You can also spray some clear on a better day or just use retarder with the dope when your using it. I prefer not to use retarder due to it doing other things such as loosening the covering due to the longer open time it offers.
Today morning I had by far the worst case of blushing ever:
Usually I just get an odd pale streak here or there, today the wing on my Curtiss looks like I came at it with wall paint a paint roller. I was using the exact same products: notrocellulose dope and nitro thinner as always, and the weather was nice and dry. I guess the jar in which I mixed the dope and the thinner or the paintbrush itself were contaminated with something, possibly moisture.

That came out really nice .You should enter it in the Cox engine of the month contest . There are lot's of people here that like to see engines on models that fly or actually get to run and be used . A very nice model and a subject that you don't see modeled very often .

Wow! That is just beautiful. Great execution Sir!
How did you color the plastics? I expect a lacquer primer with a green dope over the primer.
Who produced the kit, or is this scratchbuild at it's finest?

It's just acrilic laquer sprayed over the surface that was keyed with some fine sandpaper (maybe 400 grit?).944_Jim wrote:

Re: New Baby Bee project - Fokker D.XXI
It is sort of an inside riff-joke that I started some time back with RSV regarding some of the Ebay orphan planes he does rescue restorations on. I originally used "prison workshop" in reference to how crudely built some of those models were originally built. In your case, it's just a play on words regarding your finely built and unusual models.

Yeah, It's just ticomareado being ticomareado. After awhile you get to enjoy it.
Bob aka RSV
But, as an aside. I think there must be something in the water over there that gifts people with the ability to turn out some truly remarkable projects. Witness czarobest.

Re: New Baby Bee project - Fokker D.XXI
Went to the airfield with the intent to fly the Fokker, but after a few attempts it became painfully obvious I have no experience with starting off the ground:
I should've probably just thrown the model instead, but after a few failures to do an ROG the firewall broke off. It's all repaired now and I will try again as soon as the weather calms down a bit.

Hello again, I congratulate you for this beautiful work, it looks great.
Watch and read the whole thread, thanks for sharing this experience. I watched the video and was anxious for that model to take height, my friend! ... I'll be waiting to see your progress.

Re: New Baby Bee project - Fokker D.XXI
In contrast to you, I don't like throwing model from hand . And I just feel more confident taking off from the ground. And now that's what I'm afraid of about my maiden flight .
But why did your model turn so much? Is the propeller torque that big?
Your engine reacts very well to the throttle and obviously very nice model Good luck on next attempt.

Hey Czarek,
yes, the turning tendency was due to prop torque.

Re: New Baby Bee project - Fokker D.XXI
Yes by nature prop torque will take it to the left. Use tow in with the wheels to help fight prop torque,
trim in a couple of clicks of right rudder to help on take off. Of course hand launch to do a trim flight
first then work on your ground game is a option.
Shame you don't have a good bit of clean pavement to use.
Best wishes,
