Cox Engine of The Month
Living without electricity in West Virginia.
Living without electricity in West Virginia.
Not fun. 50/60 mph winds blowing trees down on power lines.
Four days and nights without anything. No electricity, no internet, no heat, no water, no TV. Didn't miss the TV. Lost everything in the the refrigerator/freezer.
Actually I did have heat, broke out the Kerosun and lit off the gas fireplace minus blower. A blessing when night time temps are in the mid 20's.
Kept busy though, I managed to repair the burned Medallion with parts from Bernie and touched up the Lil Tiger and the mail kept coming with the home-built silver what ever with the Enya .09 on the nose.
Patch job:
Silver whatever home built. Fuselage was built in two sections longitudinally then glued together. Sad part is, the builder installed the Enya on bearers on the bottom half then glued on the top capturing the engines mounting hardware. I will have to cut the top part around the castor locked engine to get get out.
Lot's to catch up on here. Chancey has a build going on and Kim is hitting his Shrike.
Gave you a four day break from my ramblings, hope that you enjoyed it.

Sorry Bob, I know how that is. How did you lose everything in the fridge and freezer? Just throw it outside or in the garage.
We keep a spare Fridge and the freezer in the garage as OK is notorious for freezing rain power outages.

I did save some of the condiments and sent some frozen foods over to my daughters house, but she lost electricity too. Garage daytime temps reached into the mid forties and I don't take chances with food. It's ok I got the fridge cleaned up.
Spent one summer in Norman Oklahoma and visited Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Hot, very hot! Can't imagine freezing anything. Got my worst sunburn ever there courtesy of the USN.

RE: Living without power
Wow Bob...
Sorry to hear about the winter power outage at your home ..
We had an ice storm like that a while back, here in Atlanta, that put our power out for three days and it was miserable.
The large tree limbs were broken so much that at night it sounded like cannon fire with the 5-6 inch diameter limbs popping and coming down.
Kind of surreal actually...Glad when that was over !!!
All the best, man...……..

Wow. Sorry to hear of you recent experiences. However, I am glad you chimed in here now as I was honestly thinking of you yesterday and today. It was just not like you to not be here sharing what the USPS and othere companies are bringing you. Glad you're ok though and working on your newest acqusitions. I like the looks of the silver plane. is the landing gear foldable or is it just removable and was just not installed in teh picture? The tail repair on the orange plane looks great too, and blends in very very well.

The seller broke the epoxy and folded the gear back for shipping. Simple matter to re-glue it.
I'm trying to figure a way to take advantage for a gear up flight. Just don't know how I would get it down again.

Re: Living without electricity in West Virginia.
I have a harbor freight 8700W generator. Haven’t used it in the 2 years I have had it. Some day it will be used and be glad I have it. Was only $530.
We have a 20kW PTO generator on the farm. We have a transfer switch on the light pole for that one. Was getting too small at the end when we had the cows yet and all the motors that needed to run to milk and feed. Should have had a 40kW unit.

Re: Living without electricity in West Virginia.
I’ve thought about the whole house unit, but the price is crazy. I decided to buy a 5500KV portable unit that will run a few needed things. I have a wood burning fireplace so we just all huddle in the living room around the fire and cook on the propane grille. Kids think it’s like camping. Works for us. Last time we lost power it was close to a week before it was restored. It gets old, but it’s liveable.
Boiling water for baths is a big pain.
