TIP: Frozen Cox cylinder? Try this.
If the usual methods don't loosen a cylinder I use a piece of discarded conveyer belt rubber to "pad" the cooling fins against any tool, like pliers, that I might use.
Any company dealing with conveyer belts has lots of belt scraps available for free.

Good idea! I suppose any rubber would work too.

most rubber not all!
Re: TIP: Frozen Cox cylinder? Try this.
The rubber used should allow the rubber compressed into the fins without damaging them.

It's infinitely adjustable Chris imagine a long
3 eighths socket with a strip of canvas type
Material wrapped round it. There's another
Product over here called ( (I think) a Serpent
Which kinda utilises a rubberised seat belt type
Material to do the same.
Without wishing to be an advert for anyone
Your local Snapon man has a tool for every job
And many more you've never thought of.

The one I have has an adjustable rubber strap that goes large to very small. And yes "A" series motors have tiny filters.

I have a small Kobalt (Lowes) strap wrench that might fit. I'll give it a try.

If you get the head off, you can easily make flats for the cylinder.
If the the head and cylinder comes off as a unit, you can make a wooden clamp to hold it, this has been illustrated on rcu.

I boil the engine in water with 4 or 5 drops of automatic dishwasher soap for 15 minutes. I have never failed to get one off. Also placing the engine in front of a blow dryer works well to melt Castor.
