Nah it must be doing more or running really rich to drain a tank that quick!
But hey it may be true somehow.

That's pure fantasy numbers, good luck with that...

The engine in the movie on a 5x3? is not beating 19000rpm if my ears are correct...

I'm going to run it tonight and try that iphone app. I'll post the results. I'll do the same, once I get the KB crank and put the KB backplate on.

What will a hot TD do? Randy has one of those as well, it has a reversed crank. This is all going back to a 20 year old memory and I even have problems remembering that far back.

Yes that is very possible but that doesn't explain Thai thing draining a tank in 30 seconds.

I tried the iPhone app, I think it's a believable number. The 051 came out with a 17,4XX. The numbers changed to fast to get a good reading.

That sounds about right. You found one good fast peak in the video and it sounded like a typical good healthy Bee. 18.5k possibly for that moment.
I can't explain the 30 sec run either. Where is the end of the pickup tube positioned? Maybe with those radical ports it's just slinging unused fuel out the exhaust.
See if you can get Randy on the forums.

24,000 rpm, hmmm must be a prototype?

Part of the fuel that fanned the flames of the first tach race was the result of someone's wild RPM claims. If you check the RPM's of the first race story (posted somewhere here) you'll see with 35% nitro, spinning a APC 4.75x4 prop, some very nice prepped engines not doing more then 20,000

Found it: http://coxengineforum.forumakers.com/t511-tach-race?highlight=2009+tach+race

If I built an engine that turned 24k I wouldn't forget whether it had a standard Bee or a KB crank. Everything Randy is quoted as saying is accompanied by, "I think." I think he's pulling your leg. Or maybe he needs a new tachometer.

Well Randy has had and still does have quite a few planes from back in the day. His F-15, which is the sister ship to the Mig, has a TD with the reverse crank. I believe he was referring to the specs on that TD, as he did mention that the Mig engine wasn't as hot. He's also a retired machinist by trade.

Folks, this is also something that he did 20 years ago. Right now he is building, I believe his 3rd, full size kit-plane now, so the accomplishments of a 20 year old toy engine isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things.

I'm not trying to over-blow or exaggerate things, heck I'm still learning and I'm still a new around here. I'm just enjoying playing with these little engine from yesteryear, which brings back a lot of good memories. I also enjoy teaching my boys about these little engines...
