"Black Fly-Day" at Breezy Hill !!!

"Black Fly-Day" at Breezy Hill !!!
So, the Breezy Hill gang took a shot at holding our "Black Fly-Day" in spite of the cold rawness of the weather sweeping across the hill yesterday. As often seems the case, we were all getting together AFTER two beautiful Fall days had already passed !!!!
We had eight folks show up through the morning, before we just gave up fighting the winds and passing rain showers. Billy and I retreated to Reid's Harvest House for a post Fun-Fly discussion, and we agreed that it was worth the effort.
Billy logged a couple flights on his trusty Cub, and I got in one flight on the Mavic and two on Mud Dabber. Thomas Boulnois drove up from Sikeston, and put in some laps on his electric coroplast delta.
Thomas' delta and Billy's Cub handled the winds pretty nicely while Mud Dabber rocked and rolled all over the place, with just it's rudder to fight the turbulence.
The old MK1 Trainer had a bad day, with an engine failure on it's second flight. On it's downwind leg to landing, the usually dependable O.S. .35FP in it's snout croaked, and I had to land it downwind while fighting the churned-up air.
Hitting hard, and chucking it's Go Pros, it's tail was damaged again, and apparently rupturing it's fuel tank or the lines inside it's nose. So, it's back to the work table for my old friend.
Still, lots of fun visiting, telling stories, and trying to keep warm around the thumping Salamander heater.
So, here are some moments from our Third Annual Black Fly-Day !!!!

I hate to see the old Dabber get fractured Kim, but she's a tough old girl and I'm sure you will have her back in the air shortly. Nice action shot of the happening. "Low slow and out of ideas"
That's a great site for R/C. Looks like maybe a C/L circle there too. Some one put in a bunch of tennis courts side by side.

Kim, you always take such great pictures. That overhead shot of Bills Cub is awesome. Even the crash pictures are so realistic! Glad you all had a good day, and thanks for sharing !

Thanks Guys! It was a 'sorta' fun day! We got in our share of yakking and the dinner at the local smorgasbord was great.
I've already gotten Mud Dabber stripped and prepped for surgery. The tail damage wasn't too bad, but I sure could have stood for the tank area NOT getting a dose of raw fuel. But, he'll go again...the old plane has been in a lot worse shape!!!

Oh, it's great, though there IS a lot of turbulence from the surrounding tree if the winds get up mush over 10 mph. They guys refer to C/L circle as "The Crop Circle" !!!

Sorry to hear about the Dabber, it’s not like you needed another project!
Oh well, it’s the scars that make us stronger.

Yes, always the balance between new builds and maintaining the old dogs.
Got a Chili Fun-Fly next Sunday close to Sikeston, Missouri, and need to pick out something for that, so Little Traveler may be put on deck!

Hello Kim ... thank you very much for sharing these experiences !! ... many very good photos.
The details of the forced landing in favor of wind take the prize !.
Thanks to your photos I can appreciate a very nice place to fly .... I am (as you know) very far from your land and many times I visit the google earth to get closer and to know a little more, distant places where I feel that there is a Very good group of people doing what I like.
Tell me Kim, what would be the location of that place ?, simply to locate them geographically.
A hug for everyone and special for you dear friend!

Re: "Black Fly-Day" at Breezy Hill !!!
Tough luck with Ole Daubber, but all the damage looks to be easily in the fixer-upper range. Pics were excellent, though. We had a couple of really nice days recently across the river, but spent them in the workshop drinking coffee and commenting about what a great day to fly it would be.
On a down note, the only decent hobby shop within a 125 miles closed its doors October 31st. It's been especially difficult on us old farts; we would meet for breakfast, then head over the to hobby shop for a few hours of BS and camaraderie, much like gathering around the pot bellied stove at the hardware store. However, the shop owner now has breakfast with us and we then spend the rest of the morning in the workshop of one of our guys. Online sales and the changing complexion of the hobby has made it exceptionally difficult for the LHS to survive; when our generation packs it in, I fear that modeling as we know it may soon follow.
BTW, nice hat.

Dear Kim ... thank you ... now I can travel virtually and know more! ...
It would be beautiful at some point to travel and meet you, meet your friends and share a time, get to know each other and then realize that behind a screen or PC there are thousands of people with values, of flesh and blood, who are happy. To strengthen the bonds of friendship. Yes ... you should be my translator, since I do not speak English ... haha, but basically, eating and drinking is something very easy to explain anywhere in the world! .. LOL
You and all one day could also come to my country ... why not ... by the way, Mr. Trump is visiting Argentina these days ... :-)

Got to admit I caught myself smiling several times during the video. Knew what was coming at the end though, looks like you caught a divot. The "is the runway clear?" quote came to mind. Can't be too picky with a dead prop.
The look-down video, such a stable platform. Dare I ask, Drone?

Yeah....after reading and thinking and reading and thinking for the last six months, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Mavic Pro 2 drone...and like it so much that I'm probably gonna get it's sibling with a zoom lens.
So far, the video/still frame quality has been crazy good, and my plan is to capture footage and stills of my buds' various flying machines.
Night shot of my brother's birthday party around our fire pit with the only source of light being from his yard light:
Gonna try to get more footage of Billy's Cub...if I can talk him into flying in a somewhat straight line !!!
