Re: Show and Tell
Had a bit of spare time (which seems to get harder to find as time goes on) so grabbed some Rossi's
First is a little R15. I have quite a few 15's of various makes so maybe post them after I get though the bigger brothers.
Used but in very good condition, came with new tuned pipe.
New in the box R21
R40 Pylon RIRE
Told this was mounted but never used which looks about right but seems a shame since the mounting beams were modified to fit whatever it was mounted in.
looks like the box got a fair bit of use.
Sleek and mean looking

Those are some nice looking engines there. Thanks for sharing. I really like the spinner on the last one. It looks like a center punch tip on it! But I have to ask. How does teh muffler/tuned pipe attach? Just push on with the o-ring as a seal?

Very nice score of performance engines Daven! I hope you have time to
enjoy them. Perhaps in some projects / if so please post when it happens.

Hey Dave (without the n ), you have some pretty nice engines. Any idea how many you have in your collection? What's the Kiwi scene like. Do you (along with ffkiwi) have the monopoly on model engines over there?

Re: Show and Tell
Hi Brad
No projects or plans for them. I just like looking at them and marveling in the engineering.
When I fall off the perch they will find their way into the hands of fellow enthusiasts who may chose to do the same or use them.
It matters not.
Very few of them sourced in New Zealand, four or five max, most of them obtained from the US or Europe.
Lot of desirable engines in Europe tucked away and hunting them down is fun. You know, you get on to someone who knew someone etc etc.
One trail lead me to the owner of a shop that had closed it's doors but still had model engines in it and I was able to obtain a NIB MVVS Pylon 40 RIRE engine and tuned pipe from him.
Hardest part of getting stuff out of the EU is shipping, a bit like the US, most don't want the hassle of international shipping but they're happy to ship within the EU. My eldest daughters brother in-law lives in England so I'd have the engines shipped there and then on to me in New Zealand.
I'll have to find a new contact when the UK finally leaves EU.
I also got a few out of Russia no problem.
Longest part of their journey, when you look at the tracking, is the amount of departments they have to pass through before they actually leave Russia.
Hi Rod
I have about sixty of these with only about three or four left on my want list, thankfully

Re: Show and Tell
Most definitely.
I started this thread for any engine that anyone wants to post for others to see and discuss if they wish.
Doesn't have to be a high performance or race engine, I only post these because that's mainly the type of engines i have.
Take some close-ups of yours and post them. I love to see them.

That’s a good spread of some very nice engines GWILLIEFOX. I especially like the Nelson and the little Moki.

Re: Show and Tell
Thanks for posting that, I've heard about them but never actually seen one in the flesh so to speak.
There's a very indepth history on them and mention of a couple of others on Ron Chernich's "Model Engine News" (MEN) web-site.

Re: Show and Tell
That’s an interesting engine.
A quick google of Turkish model engines brought up “THK (Türk Hava Kurumu - Turkish Aeronautical Association) Designations” where aeronautical designs of full-size aircraft are listed.
I wondered if the students or their tutor got the THK name for the model engine from there.
Then I think I answered my own question when by further searching found
REPUBLIC OF TURKEY
UNIVERSITY OF TURKISH AERONAUTICAL ASSOCIATION
IZMIR VOCATIONAL COLLEGE OF AVIATION
AIRCRAFT TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
CURRICULUM Term one
This, I think, would be the University where the students you mentioned made the engine as part of their course.
Also, searching THK 2.5 model engine, it came up in a discussion on RCG last year with your name in amongst it.
The general consensus there was it would be a rare engine.
Anyway, I guess you already know all this but I certainly didn’t and maybe one or two others don’t either.
One thing I know for certain is I never seem to stop learning.

Re: Show and Tell
Yes, that is where the engines were made. A couple were brought into the USA and Roger Schroeder reported on one Tim Dannels Engine Collectors Journal. Sorry I don't have the issue number or date at hand.
Any of you guys liking engines would do well to look at getting Tim's American Model Engine Encyclopedias and a subscription to Engine Collectors Journal. ECJ is only $20 per year and covers 6 issues. Most back issues are still available. ECJ has been published since 1963 and contributors come from all over the world, not only US. Re: Show and Tell
Here’s my only speed engine, a 2.5cc from the USSR:
Some say it is a Rossi clone, it does certainly look a lot like a Rossi, although the Soviets had some pretty hot setups of their own design too in the ’70s and ’80s. So, who copied who, I am not sure
This one has never ran, and will need a complete tear-down and clean-up before any attempts. The Soviet ”quality” left a lot to hope for, and a lot of time shavings and other particles could be found inside brand new engines.

Re: Show and Tell
I have a couple of those too. MDS/Uctkam. One is a bit harder to start than the other. Also have the older Combat one in an F2D plane. It is a good runner just 500 rpm slower than the Rossi it is copied from. Great deal at $35 in the 1980s. All of mine had sand in the head screws from casting and mangled screws. Ruined the taps when trying to retap the holes. I bet the factory went through taps.

Re: Show and Tell
My display cases and how they grew.
Missing about two years of pictures here during a recent computer failure. All my NIB engines were stuffed bottom left and moved to a rotating display stand this morning freeing up space to reorganize. I found engines I had forgotten about including another Fox .15 and several diesels.
Many more scattered around on airplanes and workshops awaiting attention.

Re: Show and Tell
Really nice displays. I wish I had some room in a case for my few RTF planes. Those Timex rotating cases are collector gold! I have a short one I use for displays at shows. Isn't it amazing how soon you run out of space!
I have bookcases with glass shelves added in house. My first one was a lawyer's case of my dad's, probably from the 20s. They used to be all over town and in the 50s and 60s you could get them for next to nothing; no more! Then I found some cheap Chinese cases, then...

Re: Show and Tell
I like your organization Bill, those cases are perfect for displaying engines.
But if you ever find one of those Timex cases latch onto it. Illuminated and it rotates. I keep my better engines in it including the rather rare Enya .36 like the one you have.
The new Plexiglas case manually rotates on ball bearings but it's not the perfect solution for storing engines even in boxes. Looks like it was intended for paper back books. But it gets them out of the display case where I can get at them.
Started rearraigning the display case. Enya's top two rows, then Cox engines, mixture - OK Cubs, Spitzys, Wens, O&R, etc.. and the junk yard.
