Cox Engine of The Month
WTB driven gear(s)
WTB driven gear(s)
I just purchased a few of the old gear driven Cox car chassis and now I need at least one of the driven gears for the axles. These are the gears with a hex shaped hole in the center that connect to a hub on the inside of the right rear wheel.

I'm new to the forum but have been into various Cox vehicles off and on since I was a kid. Looking forward to all of the information I've yet to read on this forum!

Chicken teeth, sometimes you can find them. There looks to be one in this ebay listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Cox-049-Engines-parts-Lot-car-parts/183484039315?hash=item2ab8804093:g:ve4AAOSwtFxboaEq

Re: WTB driven gear(s)
Yes, I found that auction as well. However the teeth on the gear appear to be pretty chewed up. If I can't find a Cox replacement I guess the next step will be trying to make one out of a comparable gear by cutting out the hex in the center.
Re: WTB driven gear(s)
If all else fails, you can break out the micrometer(or small rule), and try here.

They are easy to find. As per your descrîption, I think it's a Jerobee gear you need. Search on eBay under the name Jerobee or jomac, not Cox. You have to count the teeth as there are different types.

Re: WTB driven gear(s)
I can't find any of the Jerobee gears that fit however I think I have found one that could work with some modification:
https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/03125424
As recommended, I got out the calipers and took some measurements to find a comparable gear. MSC wants $12.50 in shipping which is crazy, but I'm planning to contact them directly to see if they will work with me on that. I'm still looking for an original, but if I get one of these in and successfully make it work I'll post details in the model forum.

Re: WTB driven gear(s)
if its one of these models the gears come on eBay often, I've seen maybe 8 in the last year. If I see one Ill post it here. One just sold last week.

I think I have a Jerobee gear somewhere. When I get a chance I'll find it and take some measurements.

Re: WTB driven gear(s)
If you know the tooth pitch, thickness, and hex hole size I could 3D print them out of nylon. There are a couple of openscad gear generators on thingiverse that can be used to generate the gear then can import into tinkercad to make the hex hub.

Re: WTB driven gear(s)
That sounds like a great plan. I will contact you later today once I get back home with the measurements. Once we get one printed I will photo document the process of testing it on the car and create a post in the models section for others to follow. Sounds like this could be an interesting project!
