I also do Metformin. But It's been almost 16 years since I did my Class 3. I stopped flying when I got married, and a couple of years after I started building, I got diagnosed with Type II. So I'm stuck with Sport Pilot. I don't mind. I'm a Low N' Slow kinda guy. But my wife'd like to have something like a 182 (well, a nice Piper Mirage would be more to her taste, really) for traveling. Ah, well.

Yeah, Metformin IS one of the acceptable medications that MIGHT allow a guy to go for his 3rd Class, but with shorter intervals between medicals. I'd considered going for it, but like you, I enjoy just knocking around and any "traveling" I do is gonna be wandering Richard Bach kinda stuff in the Piet.
A Piper Mirage???!!! Wow!! This IS a big dog--at least in my world. I'll be happy if I can just get ole Yeller back on it's feet!
I can tell that I've really changed in the past fifteen years, as my buds at the Pietenpol Reunion are after me to bring my plane back to Brodhead next year, but watching the summer storms blast across that field (from the "safety" of my camper trailer) made me glad the little plane was in it's hangar back home. I'll probably give it a shot though.
So, in the meantime I've got the rental Skyhawk, and am still a paid-up member in a club that owns a Cessna 152 (with a somewhat shady maintenance history), so that'll really come into play as the weather cools down.
Just got to keep the bicycle cranking and get the exercise that will hopefully keep my blood-pressure in check...so much to keep in mind as I get older !!

Today I stopped to get a couple of cables at a shop off the Hillsboro Airport, and as we were leaving my wife points at a Citation and says, "Honey, you can buy me one of those." I told her when she comes up with the $5 Million, I'll buy it for her.
I'd also love to have a Piet. Wanted one since I started dreaming of building in the mid-80's. But I haven been sized to fit in a Piet since the mid-80's. I need something with plenty of elbow room. That's why I'm building my second Challenger.
