Congratulations to CEF member Mike Londke
Mike Londke won 1st place in Intermediate stunt at the NATS. Nicely done Mike. I'm quite certain that your intermediate status has been elevated to advanced. You did quite well at Brodak's too. Ken

Re: Congratulations to CEF member Mike Londke
Well Thank you Ken for the nice post and everyone else for the kind words. Sam and I had a wonderful time at Brodaks and the NATS were great as well. We were at the NATS for a full 7 days. I only flew 1 stunt event (intermediate) which I was lucky enough to win. I've been on the edge of moving to Advanced now this seals it. I flew 3 combat events (1/2a, speed limit and Fast) I did not fly well in any of them although I squeaked out a 3rd in 1/2A combat. Sam had a better week than me. It started with him winning Beginner Stunt as the Top Junior. He was awarded the Alan Brickhaus "Eaglesnest Trophy". In Speed Limit Combat he won all his matches and with a lucky "bye" made it to the final for 1st and 2nd. Ed Breeze of Detroit won it and Sam was 2nd. Sam tried his hand at hipo 1/2A combat as well. He was out in 2 rounds but managed to keep it in the air for most of the matches. He was awarded the Top Junior Plaque for his efforts. After Fast on Thursday we had a day off before Sam had to compete in Precision Aerobatics on Saturday. The Juniors and Seniors have a fly-off to see who the Jr/Sr PAMPA National Champions are. The Open class has been whittled down to the top 5 by then as well. Sam struggled with a crash on one of his official flights so we got the back up plane out and he rallied. His flight was good enough to be awarded 1st place Jr. National Champion. Ben Mills was the winning Sr. He is 16 and his flight was as good as any intermediate flyer I've seen. Dave Fitzgerald won Open class so Dave, Ben and Sam had a fly-off for the Walker Cup. I think it has only been won by a Jr/Sr a few times in its history. This Open Champ almost always wins it. This year was no different. Ben had a strong flight and Sam crashed on his horizontal eights but there was no beating Dave. During the week we managed about 15 flights on my sport-jet with a Dyna-Jet Redhead on it, that's always a blast. Hitting two, week long contests a few weeks apart can be difficult but let me tell you it's totally worth it. We are making some good memories, flying good, flying not so good, wrecking stuff and hanging out with all the cool people who make this hobby fun. Regards, Mike

Re: Congratulations to CEF member Mike Londke
Mike, thanks for the update. Cool stuff and I'm glad Sam has been flying. When the crashing stops, it becomes more enjoyable but you can look back and laugh. I think how Shawn was when he was younger. He can out fly me in any event. The student becomes the teacher. I have the T-34 jet and I seriously want to try it this fall. I've been patiently waiting and I can't wait any longer. I wanted to go to Brodak's but the problem is that they moved combat earlier in the week. That sealed the deal for me and doesn't allow me to attend. I used to drive there on Thursday evening, practice Friday and do junkyard wars after the bb-q dinner. This allowed for combat on Saturday with the drive home Sunday. Ken

Mike, After reading your account this morning.. of the two-event trip for you and Samuel, I felt as though I was there. I wish that I could have had that bond with any of my four children.. when they were Sam's age. It's still something to aspire to.. even though my children are now much older. Thank You for giving us a look into the magnifying glass of your trip!

If you like his post, take a look at his talk about it on Friday night's show. It starts in the last hour of the video.roddie wrote:Mike, After reading your account this morning.. of the two-event trip for you and Samuel, I felt as though I was there. I don't know if the embeded video window will start when he enters @ 2:23:52, but the text link will.
