Diesel heads! turn the lathe!
Hi guys, been out here from long time, but my love for cox engines continue.
last year ago i tried to get some diesel heads from CoxCA and they told me no longer shipping to Mexico!!!! SAD. my only option was to ordered 2 heads from hobbyking!!!!! yes! as you are reading! well. the heads arrived 2 months later. but i was very happy with them.
so... seeing Cox CA refuse to ship to mexico. decided to do my own.... YEAH
i had made like 10 different heads. all work fine, some with fins. or plain heads. but all handmade. i been using tefflon discs... yeah! Found .3 and .5 mm sheets for 3 dollars free shipping from China. So.. again. thanks Cox Ca.
here some of my heads!

Wow. Those look good. I have wanted a small hobby lathe for a while now to do things like this, but even if I did get one, I would not know the first thing about using it!

What is your diesel fuel mix and how difficult is it to obtain ether in Mexico?

Re: Diesel heads! turn the lathe!
Hi Guys!
well, doing those heads are not hard. i get my lathe 2 years ago, and i didn´t know any about. but there are a lot of tutorials on youtube. maybe the hardest part to do is the thread.
those heads (engines) runs almost with any mix you already have. my first tries were with british mix, now i´m using 30 ehter, 20 castor oil and 50% diesel car pumb, or parafin or petrol.
Ether can be found on Pharmacies. hard to find the one who sells. I have the biggest drugstore in the city just 2 block from my work, BUT, being a big drugstore, i need to register some papers, explaining what is the use for ether, my id, and that stuff...
all my heads had been tested on the bench... the final test will be made next sunday on a plane.

On your video, I'd guess that your Diesel Bee is swinging that 7-4 prop at maybe 8K, which is really less than what I've see an unconverted Baby Bee do. HOWEVER, I will note that CDMX is at 2,250 meters (7,500 ft.) above sea level. It would be interesting to see some early morning tests done in, say, Veracruz.
Also, if you can find a cast aluminum Cox exhaust collector ring/pipe (which can also be fitted with a synthetic rubber hose extension), that might be very useful for grease control. I am told by a diesel friend that on real Euro small diesels these devices do not cause a discernible decrease in power output.

Re: Diesel heads! turn the lathe!
Sorry about the Mexico shipping. We used to ship there but stopped doing so about a year ago as at least 50% of the packages never arrived and, of the ones that did, most of them took at least two months. In either case we ended up with disappointed and angry customers and we simply cannot afford the losses. This is the case for 5 or 6 other countries as well.
Now having said that, we do ship to Mexico and those other countries if the customer is willing to pay for tracking, which is unfortunately cost-prohibitive
