This was my first rc airplane I ever owned. I received this from my folks for X'mas '94 but unfortunately this is not the original plane. I had to find a use for the heavy Qb and this was a good candidate for this tail heavy plane. It flys well but it's more sentimental for me.

Neat lil planes. Flies just like all the other Cox dihedral glider wing airplanes. You can find them on ebay every once in a while. Found mine for $60.

Welcome to the forum.  There are a lot of complaints about the Queen Bee being heavy and low on power.  They are being compared to TDs with no muffler.  If the field and neighbors are OK with it, there is a lot more power and less weight with the muffler gone.  The hole in the back of the muffler can be opened up a drill size or two as well, if a muffler is needed.  It may be wise to see how it runs with no muffler, as there is no tank pressure.  You could tell by just removing the muffler pressure line and run a tank with different throttle settings.  I ran mine and it was great but I may not have checked the idle without the muffler.  It did idle well with the carb mod done.  It  has been a while since I ran it, but I think the TD .09 head gave a bit more power too.  It looks like the Mexican mountain air needs a bit more power.

There is nothing wrong with the Queen Bee, it just needs a proper glow head, those regular plugs are detrimental for power. It is hard to believe that they are still being sold...

With a TD .09 head or a Turbo plug head, these engines will easily match The TT .07GP which is a much more modern design.

Yes Kris is spot on regarding the QB. It has been suffering from a poor adapter plug design
from it's original release date. That adapter plug on a TD .09 does not show the loses as bad
which made folks think it was a QB over all design issue.

hi aspeed , precisely I found the post of the hole in the carburetor on the net and enlarged the air intake, apart I exchanged the glow plug for a short plug with an idle bar , and make new gaskets from asbestos , and I think it was the solution.

Hello, fredvon4, as many post say, it is difficult to find a plane for this engine, since with the 6x3 propeller it runs quite well, but if you use a 6x4 it seems the performance is greatly reduced, so take a plane 1/2 A from outerzone.com, the weight ready to fly was 520 grams (18.34 oz.) .. regards

Hi, Surfer_kris, I think it brings some problems of origin, for example at this height , using 25% nitro fuel and 20% oil, it gets very hot, you can even hear the carburetor leftover boiling, I opted for 15% nitro 23% oil and fuel 6x3 master airscrew propeller, to date I already accumulated 4 flights, it seems that I am finding the key to this engine. ....regards

I have no experience with high altitudes but a regular short reach plug will be power robber no matter where you are.

It is not the seal itself that is the problem (a well annealed copper gasket will deform well and seal perfectly). It is the fact the seal is in the wrong place. A regular glow plug seals above the threads, so the threads are then actually a part of the combustion chamber. This is a well known problem and it is the reson for not seing a regular glow plug on any of the other Cox engines. I think Cox only put that on their RC engines in some strange attempt at getting a lower idle. So you only see that on the Queen Bee and the TD .09 RC engines, but you cannot fix a bad thing with another bad thing. The solution to a better/lower idle is in the carb, not the glow head.

ummmmmh? , I tried the standard glow plug, but it hits with the cylinder head, I'm using the glow adapter that comes originally with the engine, and with the o.s. #8 it doesn't keep the idle? Flying

The OS plug is a medium reach plug while the original plug is a short reach plug. The OS#8 might simply bee too cold (it is a medium heat plug).

My advice is to forget anything that takes a regular plug, it simply doesn't work well in terms of power.

The .074 / .09 plug adapter has passed testing and should be getting made soon for all to enjoy.

Here is a bench test with the .074 turbo plug adapter.

First run up discovery of what it can do from finding the needle to good rpm.

It is not a matter of the compression ratio as much as it is the sealing position of the plugs, that's what makes the regular plugs gutless for engines smaller than about .10 ci.

If you have a lathe you can easily convert burnt out stock heads to take Turbo plugs instead;

That's nice work you do there Kris. If you don't have a lathe and want to still squeak by on standard plugs , I once read somewhere that that you can seal them in a tapped out adapter head with RTV sealant in the threads. You'll need several plug/head assemblies in your field box as plug replacement requires some bench muscle, thorough cleaning of threads in head adapter and set up time for RTV.

That sounds like a PIA to me with the silicone , I would bee interested in how to adapt one without a lathe and not mess up the outside ?
