F-86D Beer Glasses from the 406th, based in Manston, England

Just applied to join a Facebook page dedicated to the F-86 Sabre, figuring to see if anyone might provide some info on these 11 beer glasses I bought back in the 1980's.

Then, recent posts reminded me that this little forum has a LONG reach so, here they are.

The glasses are decorated with nicely done F-86D Sabres, hand-painted with what reminds me of the Testors Enamel paints I used on my plastic display planes.

Lettered with "HG-406th Air Base GP...Manston England"...I imagined them to have been ordered by Squadron Pilots or Personnel for future reunions. How they ended up in Olive Branch, Illinois is somewhat of a mystery, though I've been recently taken aback by revelations of past careers of some of my older buds, so chances might not be all that remote.

Anyway, if someone has info, I'd appreciate a note on the history of the glasses or any surrounding history:

Kim,

Most flying squadrons have morale bars. Something like that was probably made for the flyers to drink out of in that squadron or takeaways when leaving for another assignment.

Your best bet is to try and contact members of the 406th. That base doesn’t exist anymore, but I bet the pilots do.

Here’s a bit of wiki history. Seems the 406th was located in Kentucky after being removed from England. Ahh, where is IAn when we need him??
