Also be sure to run a small bead of RTV sealant between tank and crankcase and screw heads. They can be real leakers otherwise. You'll also find two setups on these engines. Some have metal fuel pick up tube already in place for ccw upright cylinder C/L flying and others have a big hole in crankcase rear flange. In case of latter, fuel tube must fit snugly and you can fiddle more with fuel tank pick up point.

Can't speak on run time, but we probably need to know which tanks you're talking about. As Ken mentioned, there is the clear reed valve version as well as a standard .049A red tank. I got a few of these new a little while back and they don't appear to have aged particularly badly. I'd be surprised if they still have any stock. Once old Ted retired he gave the impression that any remaining stock would be disposed of. Maybe someone else (reluctantly I suspect) took over looking after the remaining stock when Ted went.

Ted is still in business for the time being, at least till this December 2018. Just ordered a few more Cub parts from him. As for the .049 "A" engine with the red tank, he still has tanks left. These tanks can be made into stunting by cutting off the two stock fill nipples, and epoxy over. Using 3/32 tubing, drill one hole at the rear of the tank from the top, do not drill through the bottom of the tank. Turn tank over and drill a second hole just to the side at the back where the top tube would be, not through the top of the tank. Measure the length of the two tubes to reach just the inside top and bottom of the tank. Using a tooth pick, epoxy a small amount to seal both fill and over flow tubes. Like the Golden Bee, the Cub .049 "A" engine will now fly all day inverted. Eddy

That's something I've been hearing for years. Sets a date for retirement and announces that this is it, there will be no more Cub parts, then decides he can't let go and keeps trading and fixing engines. I've made a couple of big purchases in the past few years thinking it was my last chance to stock up. Maybe it's just shrewd marketing. I guess they'll run out of parts eventually.
