Are you referring to this picture?
The engine that came on the tether car is on the left, my replacement engine is on the right. Both have intake screens, while the Cox Babe Bees that I bought back in the early 1950's had no venturi screens which I always thought pre-dates these.
Even the pictured backplates are different castings, with Made in USA on one but not the other and the screens and openings are quite different too.
After the fun wears off I will probably clean the original engine, slightly clean the body and retire both to my display case.

I'd try Dawn dish washing liquid and water on a Q-Tip. Do an inconspicuous corner first.

I know your not through playing yet , i would ask crankbndr he would know but Mark is in the ballpark (straight Dawn is pretty strong stuff ) I have been cleaning my work station so look out !?!?
