Sometimes I check this site without being logged in (I have the password saved on my home computer only), and I've just noticed that the "Latest topics" are different depending on if I'm logged in or not. Is this an intended feature (I don't see why it would be) or a "bug"?

At the moment there is the "OS Max 15" thread as an example.

Some topics are hidden unless logged in.

Why is that, why would one have a "members only" thread?

Off site sales and auctions is one that hidden so only members can see, I think there are others.

Okey, thanks, so it is not like we can choose our posts to be public or not then. Instead it is a default for some sub-forums. Still find it odd though, I haven't seen that elsewhere on other forums. Why would one have to be logged-in, in order to read about other public sites?

I think in the case of "off site sales and auctions" it was so only members could see what was posted for sale on eBay.
"for sale" is open to anyone, sometimes if I don't log in I miss something.
Jacob could make this clearer than me.

There's a few reasons why there are member-only sections. The first being that gaining access to more features of the site creates an incentive to join the forum. Another reason being that there may be topics that some members may not want to be available to the search engines (Google, Bing...).

I can understand that the on-site sales are only available for members, that could possibly add some security (?), but the off-site sales are public anyway? We are just regurgitating the links here? Huh...

I haven't really noticed this difference before as all of the discussions forums (?) are public and I don't really take a look at where the different discussions are taking place.

But anyway, at least now I know how it works, even if I don't understand why...  Rolling Eyes

The For Sale-Wanted forum should be visible to everyone, while the off-site sales/auctions forum is for members only.

Many other forums that I'm on also have Members-only sections.

What is quite unique to this forum is we have a section open for guests to post in. https://www.coxengineforum.com/f9-general-questions-guest-posting-allowed I don't know of any other forum that has an area open to guests posting.
