Re: cox engines horse power
A basic Cox production engine (such as the Surestart) will turn 15,000 - 17,000 RPM with 25% Nitro and a 5x3 prop.
Output is aprx. 50 Watts.

also
it would be cool to see a listing of all the 049`s from least power to king of the cox hill`s power numbers. It can all be looked up individually, but 1 comparrison list wold be so much more convenient for all those un-initiated etc

I agree. I nominate you to do it. We'll be waiting. Should be done by Friday, right?

Hello.
Sorry I missed this question but a reedy 049 with a 5x3 usually produces are 0.07 horse power.

Thanks for simplifying that, Sibofly. Welcome to CEF.sibofly wrote: HP in watts means; 750W=1Hp,for example my Cox TD 09 0,28 Hp=210W
To be unnecessarily precise, 746w=1hp.

when you find a link to the performance of your engine in watts,You then can apply the knowledge about electric power in watts for building your next model;
for example you can build piper super cub weight 1lbs and your 0.049 cox(50 watts) is perfect for this.
Orionrider, Belgium, Wattflyer forum;
Foamie, motor glider, Piper Cub: 100 watt per 35,3 oz (2lbs)
Trainer: 150 watt per 35,3 oz
Warbird, 'sport' aerobat: 200 watt per 35,3 oz
Racer, 3D: 300 watt per 35,3 oz
EDF Jet: 400 watt per 35,3 oz

Re: cox engines horse power
Americans seem to be just about the only ones in the world that use HP to rate power output of engines. The rest of the world uses Watts (i.e. KW if the output is over 1,000 Watts).
Calculating wattage is far easier than calculating HP as Watts are based on the ubiquitous, 10-based, Metric system.

Not only have we condemned ourselves to needing two sets of tools, but also two sets of mathematical formulae. At least the math is free because I misplace bits of it worse than I misplace tools.

Hey, if you drop a decimal, you can always add another. If you drop a NV spring, you may have to order another!!!!
