Cox .049 Cylinders #4

Cox .049 Cylinders #4
In order not to hijack Matt's thread I'll start a new one.
Matt and I did discuss the #4 TD cylinders and they are currently in production and should ship this week or next. They will be like the #4 ones that Cox last made, open port, low cut to induce SPI and ported like the Venom ones (but not tapered).
Begining sowhere in the late 80's (I think the date is correct) Tee Dee cylinders were no longer tapered. According to a former Cox production manager there was no difference in performance to the tapered ones because the porting had been improved.
Matt mentioned either making his own or sharing in our production and he will likely make that decision at some point. I have not yet seen the finished product but they are being made by Ronald Valentine, so I have no doubts whatsoever re. quality.
As Matt correctly pointed out, manufacturing cylinders from scratch (i.e. to get tapered ones) is likely out of question for the short term as small runs (1,000) are cost prohibitive and larger runs (10,000) tie up too much capital. The same goes for pistons, .051 or others.

Hi Bernie,
You managed to contact Ron!
I am having sooooo much trouble but honestly his quality is superb.

Re: Cox .049 Cylinders #4
Ronald and I speak on a regular basis (he buys engine parts from me for his production).
He has made several items for me and his work is superb. Not inexpensive but what he makes is of high quality.

Re: Cox .049 Cylinders #4
I have purchased a couple of engines from him and a few parts he is great.
Do you have an alternative email to speed demon diesel?

Re: Cox .049 Cylinders #4
We don't email much as I just pick up the phone and call him. When it goes to voice mail he does return my calls. Emailing is not his forte
Re: Cox .049 Cylinders #4
Yes I guessed that lol.
Suppose I will phone him or do the formal thing and write a letter

Re: Cox .049 Cylinders #4
That's Great! I'll be watching for the #4 cylinders! You have the stunt tanks, killer crankshafts and now going to have the cylinders, damn near have a Venom!

I do have a few designs I am working on, but its no secret we share production on a lot of items

Never going to happen. Way too small a market. We have them for 049 and sell maybe 3-4 per week. The 010 and 020 market is less than 10% of the 049 market. That aside, Matt and I lucked out with the 049 carbs as we bought the parts in bulk from a Cox derivate; meaning we did not have to manufacture them.
Re: Cox .049 Cylinders #4
Yeah that way I could tell Bernie (in the wrongnitroairplane wrote:Guy I think we should make a thread abut .010 stuff.
Place) that there's
A contribution towards his beer fund
For one of this carbs he's got laying around
Coming this week.
