Yes and that is why C/L flyers tend to use LH props and run their eingines CCW.
We do have LH props for 049.
Re: Stupid question Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ron no question no matter how odd or silly is STUPID.

If an engine ran his entire life the 'normal' direction. Is it still capable to run backwarts?
I think parts are all worn in one direction, maybe the other way there will be more friction?
Got some of the #334 LH starters to, they have a black ring.
I have noticed on some of my engines that the compression is actually better when rotated by hand in the opposite direction. Most likely due to cylinder wear.

Yeah or you are feeling friction and not compression.
I think I is the piston more than the cylinder though.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I learned a bunch of new info.

Seems I am always learning new info that is something I really love about this forum.

Maybe, my compression check consists of how hard the prop kicks around and smacks my finger. Anti-clockwise the kick is less and clockwise the kick is harder. Kind of a pain gauge.

Re: Stupid question Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Use an APC and you can tell the compressin by how deep the gouge it leaves in your finger is
Re: Stupid question Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cox International wrote:Actually, let me re-phrase this as I did not read your post correctly.
What I was trying to say is that every prop has blades that have leading and trailing edges and are meant to rotate in a specific direction only and this rotation cannot be reversed with the expectancy of like performance.
However, if one maintains the designeated rotation, they wil work just the same and provide pusher instead of tractor performance; and vice-versa
I was about to say, it did not make since. All electric propellers work this way too.

Which I guess would explain my NIB PT19's LH prop and spring/just noticed. DOH!

That would also explains Travis' babe bee with pusher set up that was not realised until recently.
Re: Stupid question Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, subscribed, forgot about the whole left hand rotation abilities. Another build note for the DeHav Mosquito dual engine build.

I thought that would have Tee dee or Gmarks?
You would need a left hand crank.

Looks like it is leaning to the TeeDee's then, don't think Gmark even contemplated a left hand crank.

PV, If you keep heading in that direction, pm me your address.
I have a brand new one I got in a parts lot some time ago.
I don't see myselfe ever using it. Freebie for ya!

Re: Stupid question Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think I have ever been as confused by a thread as I am by this one!
OK, full-size practice may be that you judge rotation from the pilot's seat, but we aint sittin' in these 'ere toy aeroplanes!
For 60 years I have considered my engines rotate anti-clockwise, and I aint about to change now!
MODEL practice is, it rotates anti-clockwise with a normal (right-handed) prop, it's a tractor, rotates anti-clockwise with a Left-handed prop, it's a pusher.
Rotates CLOCKWISE with a right-handed prop, it's a (rather inefficient) pusher
I stand by that, but will defend to the death anyone's right to dissagree!

Re: Stupid question Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ivanhoe,
I fully respect your stance but even Cox measured rotation as seen from the pilot's seat. Not only are their catalogue listings annotated in this fashion but their relevant products are stamped LH (on propellers that turn LH) and starter cams that are stamped "R" & "L".
For instance our 3-blade LH prop is stamped LH and goes with the starter spring and cam stamped L. However, were you to lokk at the prop rotating by standing in front of the engine, it would actually turn to the right.
By the same token, the direction or rotation is irrelevant to whether it is a tractor of pusher. The direction of the blades relative to direction of rotation govern this. There are pusher props that turn LH as well as some that turn RH

Re: Stupid question Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gentlemen, regarding the right hand/left hand topic, it is all quite logical if one remembers a bit of history. Recall that the automotive engine preceded the airplane. The auto engine was cranked right handed from the front of the auto. But early on Joe Blow swapped his Model-A engine end-for-end and put it on an airplane. He replaced the flywheel with a prop, and even tho it now turned to the left (from the front) it was still a conventional right handed engine to him (and even today to us too).
