Re: Inquiry Tee Dee 010 (balogh)
Hello Mauricio
This is not my creation but the so called PET I. e. Proportional Exhaust Throttle by the late and great Roger Freihheit who had this patented and sold for Tee Dee 010 engines. A throttle cuff made of bronze whose thermal expansion is higher than that of steel. A miniature engineering wonder that seems to escape people's attention. Probably the most miniaturized engine throttle ever made. Sorry that except for you the CEF community does not recognize and appreciate it.

This throttle has been thoroughly discussed and adequately "mocked" on other forums in the past....
It used something like 52 parts and lots of fancy talk about the choice of material, when in fact it is simply an exhaust throttle that anyone can make.

Sorry Kris I did not see or know that. I still like it's self controlling feature I. e contracting at low heat input I. e idle and expanding at full load. Roger was an obsessed COX fan and inventor that I admire. I think Estes sold the 010 equipped with PET in blister pack.

It's been more than ten years by now, but some of the discussion can be found in the links below, together with the very aggressive (!) marketing;

Thanks for the contributions guys, unfortunately one of the links I can not open to see information.
Balogh you have some own video of operation ?, could you put photos in detail of its own accelerator? ..... it is done in two halves, not?

Re: Inquiry Tee Dee 010 (balogh)
Mauricio I do not have a video but have this compond picture that I once posted on a Cox Engine of the Month . Also, I have tried it and it works very well.
On TeeDee010 engines the traditional exhaust throttle drum will not work well, because the cylinder has the collar at its bottom whose diameter will determine the drum diameter, that can only be larger than the cylinder dia measured at the exhaust port.. If you slip a drum on the cylinder with a diameter smaller than that of the drum, the exhaust throttle function will not work...the flue gases will blow between the cylinder and the drum.
As you see the PET "sits" in the groove over the lower collar of the cylinder and the tightness of the throttle on the cylinder can be adjusted by the bolts. A traditional one-piece throttle drum like the one on the TeeDee 049 will not work here.

The step on the cylinder is not a big issue, it just means that you cannot have a one piece throttle-ring that goes onto the cylinder. Steve at SelectHobbies offered a product at the same time that used a split-ring plus a c-clamp as usual;

Of course, it looks like it's also applied in the Sportsman .15, a two-piece hoop. To realize it or to make it, it is necessary a lathe, there is no way of being able to do it with a different shape ....

You may keep watching ebay, where sometimes a blisterpack 010 appears..the Estes-time 010-s often came together with the PET.
Here is one that was sold in new condition, together with the booklet, for 203,5 USD:

Re: Inquiry Tee Dee 010 (balogh)
One could also copy the patent application; https://www.google.com/patents/US6748908
I don't know if it ever came through, but that has to be longest and most complicated description of a simple exhaust throttle that has ever written...

Very good information Kris, thank you, I was thinking, how many pieces between bronze plates, nuts, washers and screws, maybe could be simplified ... I guess

Re: Inquiry Tee Dee 010 (balogh)
The late Roger Freihheit provided me with a set of tiny tools with which the whole throttle assembly could be adjusted on the cylinder easily. So the setup looks complicated but he provided you with an easy-to-install setup...

Below is a better picture. The contemporary product by Select hobbies was simpler to use in all aspects, and also a lot cheaper...
I wonder how much all of that brass weighted compared to the aluminium ones...

That is interesting.
On the other hand if you start the engine 0.010 and shoot it at least a few minutes, would be something that I would like to see it work. Only if you decide to do it at some point!

How beautiful your comment, how good those people who pass through this land and somehow leave a legacy, a teaching, something that is useful for those who come.
What a good gesture yours Balogh, to appreciate it.

Hi Mauricio, despite my promise I did not start up the PET-throttled TD010 because it is freezing cold in my garage, and this is not ideal for fiddling with such a miniature mechanism like the PET....do not worry, stay tuned,I will video how it runs once weather permitting

Hello, no problem, when the weather allows and if you feel like making it work, it will be a pleasure to see and share the video for me.
Thank you for keeping in mind the restlessness!
I send you a big hug!
