Just print some stuff out, and tell them Matt n' Bernie are the last "real" retailers of Cox products. You may get them to order some stuff.
Bring one of their custom engines along.

I already told Matt and Bernie to email them some advertisements but I'm sure Hub Hobby probably tossed them in the trash unless either Bernie or Matt can tell me if they sent some crap to a location on Minnesota Street in Little Canada, MN or Payne Ave (I think its Payne Ave) In Richfield, MN. I haven't been up there so I have no idea what they could have put out since then!

I sent them a few emails as well as some of our literature to receive no response.

They probably deleted it, or they just don't check their email anymore. Who knows. Very rude people up there. You ask to see an engine and they make a rude gesture like you are a complete bother to them. You'll ask if they have any 1/2A fuel and they say "no, not anymore we cant get the engines that use it anymore so there is no reason to have it" LOL
Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
Yeah, it is too bad. There are some shops around that are willing and actually show some sort of excitement when talking to them, but they are far and few between.

It will be a sad and dark day when we will be noticed that even Matt and Bernie will run out of Surestarts.
I will get them and the new engines from Bernie fore sale on my website to.

Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
So Bastiaan will you continue to supply cox when your stock runs out?
Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
Yes i will, when I run out of OEM items, I will continue selling items from Bernie. But when he will run out of stock...so will I.
In the next couple of months I will list the items from Bernie. However, I first want to list my OEM items including picture.
I still got stuff coming in from the old warehouse store stock I bought.

Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
Cool but I hope when Bernie runs out there will still be enough interest to make it worth while getting them re made.
Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
This has probably already been addressed elsewhere......I was wondering what the chances are of making new .010 and .020 cylinders cranks and pistons? I was bidding a few weeks back on a .010 OEM NIP cylinder piston set and the darn thing sold for almost as much as a complete engine.

The amount of times I have asked that
Well If they did that they might as well make the whole .010 I doubt that will happen.
But as a lot of you know I am a bug fan of converting cox engines to diesel and the .010 will not go as a diesel with the stock crank and I broke 3 trying. So I am trying to contact Ronald Valentine and others about getting a small batch of .010 heavy duty cranks made.
BUt money and other stuff is a problem right now but if I get anywhere I will let everyone know.
Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
Yes, as Nitro said, highly unlikely. I am sure Bernie would tell you the same thing.
The biggest problem with those parts are the grinding/milling/honing that have to take place as second ops. This does not even take into account that the demand for these small engines is very low.

But Matt I still think you could turn a decent profit if you found someone to make small quantities.EXModelEngines wrote:Yes, as Nitro said, highly unlikely. I am sure Bernie would tell you the same thing.

I agree, that if 100 parts or so were made then they would sell. The problem is there is nobody who will make these parts in such small runs like that. If you do find a shop willing to do a special manufacture of small parts the price is very high per unit. It would probably be $10/part just to get them made at such a small volume coupled with high setup costs not being able to be spread out over a large production run.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to make these engines, but I just do not see the demand.
Matt
Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
Yeah I get that but Valentine makes engines in pretty big numbers.
I need to take a look at one of his 0.098cc diesel cranks and see what mods would be necessary to put it in a .010 because my guess is he has some spare cranks for the DiVa's ETC and if it is a simple mod I should be able to get it done now if only he would answer my email

If we only could get the kids from know interested in model flying in small combution engines (what both where my dream when I was a kid), we would have plenty demand.
its sad...my younger brothers (11 and 12) only watch televion, play on their playstation and go skating.

Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
I had the idea of converting some parkzone BNF models using MF tee dee .010s and putting them on youtube etc just to generate interest in the engines and let people who would find them cool know about what they are and how to get them.
Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
I'm 100% with Matt on the 010 and 020 (Tee Dee) - There is simply not enough demand.
Everyone and their dog wanted me to make 010 and 020 (TD) needle valves, for instance. Well, I made them (1,000) each and I am quite convinced the majority will still be in stock in 10 years - that is how poorly they are selling.
010 glow heads, for instance, should be the best-selling item in the 010 class and even those are poor sellers. When I run out of OEM stock I will not be making any more. And, if a glow head does not sell, other parts will be even slower sellers. It only makes sense to manufacture in substantial quantities, unless you want to pay $20 for a crank, that is.
Pee Wee parts sell really well because Cox made so many of them and spares are required.

Re: Prototypes of new Cox engines that will be available in January
Have encountered the limited attention span of my two ten year old g'sons and the distractions to which they seem to gravitate.
I've be quite involved with my g'sons since their births so model aviation has been a natural extension of that relationship with them rather that something to attract their attention. I've taught the boys about fishing, camping, wildlife and the ethics of the outdoor life not as an afterthough but by intentional design. Once that relationship was established it has continued to enrich.
Far too many parents and g'parents try to establish those relationships only after they encounter problems with their offspring. By then it is very often too late.

Dave,
I suppose it all depends on Goethe kids hae been brought up from the off.
You are right there will be no need to fix a problem if you prevent that problem from happening in the first place.

Ugh, more doom and gloom!
Seriously though, .010 parts are a little more pricey and perhaps that is the reason they are slow sellers coupled with the fact there were not as many made as .020 and .049's. A new .010 head as in your example costs 12.95 I believe and by the time it gets to your door it's close to $20 so given that fact and since they don't burn out often (except the NIP one I bought) they just don't have the demand.
Sometimes I wish I had about 200.00 to burn as I would just buy a bunch of spares and take comfort in the fact I have enough for my personal needs. As it stands my purchases are made on an as needed basis.

Every time I have 150 to burn I buy more engines.

Every time I have $150.00 to burn I burn $175.00. Not too smart of me!
