Hi there. I just acquired a Baby Bee engine that was drilled to run a remote fuel tank. I was just wondering if anyone here has repaired or filled the hole back up to use as a regular Bee with stock tank. If so, would solder work, or a JB weld? It is not a big deal, it is just that I would like to try for kicks. Thank you.

I think JB would work better than solder, tape the outside of tank, so its pretty stiff and dab on from the inside?

I got a RR-1 tank somebody drilled a hole into.

Put a new tank on it. The results are better. (OK, with the RR1 you are stuck)

If you're not successful with sealing the hole.. (although you probably will be, with the JB weld..) you can certainly run an external tank like the PO did. I've done this to a Babe Bee (5cc) tank using a rubber grommet to fit in a 1/4" hole drilled in side of the tank-wall. Small-size (Dubro) silicone fuel line fits tightly within the grommet.. and wont pull-off the nipple inside.. unless you really tug on it. My reasoning for this was for running the engine in a boat.. to achieve longer run times. The Babe Bee hasn't had any trouble drawing fuel from an external tank, in my experiences.

Here's a photo showing a rubber grommet installed. You could easily plug this.. and re-plumb an internal fuel line if you wanted.

Thank you. That is awesome. It is really funny as I was reading the topic the other day about that muffler/exhaust but forgot where I found it as I want to build one too. I can now see how it goes again. Looks like JB Weld it is.

Well, I am now at a dilemma, again. So I did not fill the holes yesterday as planned. I found a 3cc syringe and a small piece of some kind of small tubing that fit both the syringe and backplate. After many attempts, I got it running. It made a lot od braaaaaap's, but it just didn't want to go. But when it did, I kept it running by keeping the syringe full. Only after I was happy that it did not make my wall all covered with gunk, I walked by and realized she was going in reverse. So I let it die then started it the right way. After another couple of minutes, I was checking it out when I saw a steady leak/stream from between the crankcase and tank. I was ready to replace the gasket, no biggie. I listen to it run while putting a couple of supplies away when it starts to run very erratically which it did not do all the rest of the time it was running, so I run back to adjust the needle when I see the whole engine dancing around. The backplate screws were loosening. Run aborted and brought back inside for a tech inspection and repair. But I now my NOT fill them holes in now. Thanks.
