diesel fuel - Diesel or Glow Head Empty Diesel or Glow Head

seen how i cleaned up the chopper engine and have the "product" crank, wich is bigger so should i get and run a diesel head? i haven't ran the engine yet for around 35 years, or should i start with just a glow head. if i do run diesel what do i use for fuel diesel, regular 25% nitro or both?

Diesels run on e.g. 33% aether plus 33% kerosene plus 34% castor.

Trevor, I would run the engine with 1/2A type glow-fuel and a Cox glow-plug. Cox International or EXModel engines have glow-plugs.. and you can get "Sig Champion" 1/2A (25% or 35% nitro) glow fuel from Sig Manufacturing.

Diesels conversions from glow can be finicky.. or so I've heard. You'll get higher performance from the engine.. running it as designed.

Do you have any photos to post?

Yes.. I remember now.. but I hadn't read where you wanted to run it with a prop. Have you re-read that thread for the link to how Jason converted his engine?

It is actually very easy if you have (or make) a proper diesel conversion head. But you cannot use the teflon disc style heads, those are just asking for trouble...  No

With correct diesel fuel (these are commercially available)  and a larger prop than you would use for glow, these engines are dead easy to start. And especially reed engines produce more torque (and similar power) on diesel compared to glow. That's my experience at least.

Diesel engines are also less sensitive to the needle setting, sure they can miss a little but they always keep running, no sudden stops like you can get on glow engines, especially at reduced throttle settings.

How about a PeeWee that always starts on the first flip (using a piston prime), pulls a 6x3 prop at +10krpm, and always runs out the tank. That's what you get once dieselized. Smile

For those who are not used to diesel engines though I would recommend to stay with glow fuel. You can always run in an engine on glow and convert to diesel later too.

Just run it as a glow engine.
Get a set of head shims and glow fuel with lots of castor.
