Combat planes FS for shipping cost
Howdy all,
I bought out a guy's complete stash of control line stuff. Included were 7 combat planes. I'll never fly them, but they are way too well built to junk. He told me he took 7th place at nationals one year. They look true and are built stoutly: I think the engine mounts are maple and some have what appears to be an aluminum bladder compartment. But they are built for function not beauty: clear Monokote (or similar), no/little paint (but fuel proofed). They range from about .10 or .15 to .35. Here is an example:
If anyone wants one or more, I'd love to let them go just for shipping cost.

John,
Are all the planes similar to the ones pictured? I would be interested in a Voodoo if one was available.

Re: Combat planes FS for shipping cost
Wow, Didn't expect such interest. There will be a bit of a delay shipping because I will be out of town for a few days, sorry. I'll pass them out first come first served.
Most have sewn hinges which I would restitch.
And first is Kim: the one pictured in my first post is a 15 and YOURS! PM your address, and I'll get it.
Here is the only other 15. The inboard wing is UNcovered.
Number 2
All the others are all 29/35 based on the engines he had:
Three
Four. It has two sets of mounting holes.
Five and Six. Note the leading edge is cut out on the outboard wing. No idea what that is for.
Seven
Ron/Cribbs, you are next. Post your choice so everybody knows what is gone, and PM your address.
Allen/Aero, you are after Ron. Post your choice, and PM me.
I'm glad they are getting good homes.

Re: Combat planes FS for shipping cost
What is shipping on a 29/35 bird?
The LE is cutout so the engine can sit back enough to balance. There should be a piece of pop can glued in as a heat shield.

I am in for the one with the red checkers on the stab.
I shot you a PM.
Phil, expect $20 or so on shipping. If the booms are cut off.

Is that 6 or 7 that you want?
Cut the booms? As in take a saw to the fuselage???? Is that really what you want???

John
It looks like there are two planes with the red checks.
If that is so, send me the other one.
If not, send me the one red and white barred tail.
You should be able to pad those real well in a big box and send them USPS Standard or Parcel Post.
And mark them FRAGILE!
PM on the way.

No cutting please.
$20 is fine, how would you like it?
6 or 7 is also fine. I think I like 7 better.

Seven,
And yes the tail booms cut doesn't affect the wing.
Edit: Six is fine too. I don't want to step on Phil's toes.

Re: Combat planes FS for shipping cost
Bag the plane. Tape plane through bag to a over large sheet of cardboard. Fold cardboard over on itself. Insert into box. It should be more than secure.
I will pay an extra $5 or so for no cutting.

Re: Combat planes FS for shipping cost
The 35s have wingspan of 40" length of 20" so a box 44x22x3. They will be shipped from 77006. For an example, I ran a check to Columbus, Ohio. UPS ground came in lowest at 18.71 plus about 5 for the box. I leave for a trip tomorrow, so I probably won't be able to ship for 10-14 days. I'll pay the shipping up front.
And from what I looked at, cutting doesn't really save enough to justify the effort. The long wings are what kicks it into dimensional weight.

I'll take 5 then.
The Columbus shipping is probably the same as for me, I am only an hour north of there.
I'll pm my info.

Re: Combat planes FS for shipping cost
The leading edge is cut to recess the engine. If he was using a heavier engine, this is quite important. It also keeps the rotating mass directly on the leading edge. The center of glow plug should line up on the leading edge. I always liked the single boom planes, a trademark of the times I suppose. Ken

Re: Combat planes FS for shipping cost
At least you have something to show for it....
Mine was delivered to the wrong place, rejected. Then smashed and discarded.
Hooray!!!!
I am going to cover shipping still as this isn't John's fault. I will say I am not happy about this.

No, don't pay me. I listed them as worth $75 (I'm pretty sure I can justify that). They are supposed to contact me "within 24 hours of inspection" of the item. So.... hopefully everything will be sorted out.
I'm just mad that so far I am 1 for 3 (with 2 in transit).
