My first Strato Bug.....maybe
Was anyone else watching this Strato Bug listing (who was I bidding against)? It ended at 9:20 this morning (odd time). The listing title call it a "Thimble Drone engine", nowhere in the listing did it say Strato Bug,
made me think the seller was pulling a fast one. I won't know if it is real till I get it opened up. There is a 14 day return window if I find it to be fake.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/351124686197?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
It has the package but the paper insert is missing, I can make an insert with a good scan of the original if anyone has one.
A copy of the paperwork for this engine is one of the few missing from this site, could use a scan of that too if anyone has one.
It also needs the wrench part #320 if you have one to sell.
I found this copy of the insert on Marks site but it has glares, a scan would be better.

It looks promising with the package and all. Hopefully it will be real.
You didn't look hard enough for the manual! LOL https://www.coxengineforum.com/h24-instruction-sheets

If Ron doesn't have one, here's one included with an engine http://www.ebay.com/itm/RC-Engine-Thimble-Drome-and-tool-/281396975903?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item418491191f

Fastest shipping I've ever seen, engine is new, never fueled. Clean inside and the tank and backplate look genuine. The three piece piston and cylinder and head look like the day they were made. The box is a mess, that will take some work.
The crankcase has a marking cast in on the inside under the crank, hard to tell what it is.

That's great news. Congratulations. I am interested to know if your cylinder has sub-piston induction, and whether it uses the small diameter head. When I saw that for sale, I felt pretty confident that it was real, but I never would have guessed it was new. It looks awesome. Great catch. Andy

Re: My first Strato Bug.....maybe
I put a wrench on the head but it didn't want to come loose easily so i stopped, no more wrenching.
It is a three piece piston, dual port cylinder with SPI.
Using Marks info on .049 Collectors Group I say it is the newer cylinder by looking at its profile.
Newer is on left, older right

By latter, do you mean you think it is the older, small diameter head? Thanks, Andy

Re: My first Strato Bug.....maybe
Sorry, my wording is a little confusing, its the newer cylinder, like on the left in the photos

Re: My first Strato Bug.....maybe
Making the paper insert for the box was quite difficult, but after finding the right scale and some retouching I got this printed on heavy paper.
Cut the engine out with a blade, the insert is more purple than the photo shows. Might work more on this but for now it will do.
The box cleaned up nice with soap and hot water, made some fake paperwork and got a line on a few wrenches and its finished.

Looks like the real deal to me. I think you did very well!
Under the right circumstances you could easily double your money. If you were so inclined that is.

Re: My first Strato Bug.....maybe
I might list it as a NIB Strato Bug, point out the fake paperwork and see what happens. Hard to resist making money

Re: My first Strato Bug.....maybe
The insert looks great. I would not call it fake paperwork. I would list them as reproduced, which I believe is accurate. I thin you got a great deal. It would be hard to part with. Good luck.

Re: My first Strato Bug.....maybe
To me NIB means everything from the factory as it was at the time it shipped. Most here and collectors would agree. I would list it like new with the reproduction paperwork.

Re: My first Strato Bug.....maybe
Your right Jason, in the past I never listed an engine NIB unless it had never been removed from the box.
Good point thanks!
