Fastest reedy??

Fastest reedy??
Anyone know the fastest speed ever recorded by a reedy powered airplane? I was thinking CL, but RC would be interesting too.
I'm just curios, really. I'm working on a plane for the second Reed Speed event and just started to wonder. I don't think I've ever seen an 'unlimited' reedy powered speed ship.

This is from the info pack that came with the plans. Building one is on my "to do" list.

Crank,
Thanks for the heads up but I already have one. Picked it up in the used bin at the LHS for ten bucks

I have a Cox magnesium speed pan, but I don't have any plans to build from. I've tried Outerzone and RCG, but I've not found anything. Can someone direct me to some plans I could download?

Re: Fastest reedy??
$45 for a Cox pan with a TD and it didn't sell? That sounds like a pretty good deal to me, was there something I missed (or just don't know)?

Jim,
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't think to look on eBay for plans. I just spent an hour and a half looking at plans on eBay. Thanks for finding me a new time waster.... Those should do well. I'm not looking to compete, as I doubt my knees would appreciate trying to keep with a 100MPH plane. I just want to put a stock TD and prop in this thing and see how fast I go. Just for fun.

I've been thinking something like that would be fun too, Mark. The reed speed contest really has got me interested in speed flying, just not enough to get serious about competing!

I'm in the Reed Speed for the fun of it too. I have no hopes of even placing this time, as everyone seems to be hot this time around. I'm just using it as a good excuse to build another plane. Besides, this time around I didn't build to the minimums. I like the lines of my subject plane too much to alter them to fit the 12"-15"-45 squares rule.

Dare I ask what you'e chosen this time, or is it going to be a surprise?
Re: Fastest reedy??
I'll get around to posting some build pictures her soon. I cut everything out, and then other projects popped up.

It's been re-listed. I don't need one, but someone else might be interested.

Re: Fastest reedy??
What is the best reed material to use that can handle / provide high rpm?

Best reed
While others may work OK, the mylar reed had shown me 24,500 RPM steady state on the test stand many years ago... One was used to set the current AMA national Open Mouse Race record back in 1999. Can't go wrong starting there.
Cheers, Paul
BTW, that was with a Cox 5 X 3 prop (if I recall right). I would expect an APC 4.4 X 4 would turn up significantly more. Lord knows when one crank sheared at the splines the RPM went off the clock for a short while... I would think in the air (with the prop unloaded) there would be several thousand more RPM. I never endevored to measure the in air RPM though. Would be interesting to know.

Re: Fastest reedy??
Imagine if Leroy had took a look at the Pee Wee and said lets make a Lil Wee .010 reedy.. the question of rpm abilities - perhaps 27k???

He did but there were issues with it. I believe the issues had something to do with the reed floating at such high speeds. Mud has some of the parts from it https://www.coxengineforum.com/gallery/Personal-album-of-Mudhen/Reed-Valve-010-Engine-Parts-pic_196.htm
